Signing ceremony of cooperation agreement between VAST and VNU-HCM
The event drew the participation of Prof. Chau Van Minh, member of the Party Central Committee and President of VAST, representatives from relevant departments and institutes under VAST; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thanh Binh, member of the Party Central Committee, President of VNU-HCM, and representatives from relevant departments and member universities.
Addressing the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thanh Binh, appreciated the importance of cooperation with VAST. The Academy has made a positive contribution to research training in basic science, applications in chemical technology, physics, nano-technology, material technology and biotechnology. Over the past time, the Academy has always helped VNU-HCM to develop plans for suitable training in accordance with the guidelines of national economics and the demand for human resource training in southern provinces.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thanh Binh, appreciated the contributions made by VAST. He said that the extensive research and applications of VAST have great potential which lectures and researchers from the university, have not approached in order to unitedly perform breakthrough tasks in human resource training in science and technology and technology deployment application. Based on the potential and demands of the university, he asked in the near future, that the two sides cooperate in information technology, nano-material technology, biotechnology, remote sensing and satellite technology, chemistry, and the pharmaceutical chemistry.
Prof. Chau Van Minh expressed his desire to continue further cooperation on science and technology development, human resource training as well as research to speed up the application of science and technology achievements for socio-economic development in the southern provinces. Over the past time, VAST has carried out projects and programs in basic research and application research. The Academy was provided modern equipment and international standard laboratories. Many experts have worked at the Academy. They are resources that lecturers and researchers in the university approach to have exchange, study and research.

About the coordination mechanism, Prof. Minh said that it is necessary to determine detailed, clear and highly realizable cooperation orientations to bring cooperation contents into major science and technology motivation in high-quality science and technology human resource training and foster economic development in the southern provinces.
The two sides agreed with the need for close collaboration from the formulation of ideas and research problems until the implementation by units of VNU-HCM and institutes of VAST and make research products interdisciplinary, easily applicable and to have close cooperation in order to meet the needs of practical production and improve the capacity of training associated with the practice of the university.
The two groups must immediately implement cooperation contents they agreed in the field of biotechnology and nano-materials to perform from 2015. After two years, the two sides will organize workshops to access cooperation contents and inform each other achievements of each unit.’
