Seminar reviewing mid-term project on building Vietnam national nature specimen collections
The event drew the participation of Prof. Dr. Sc. Nguyen Dinh Cong, vice president of VAST, and head of the project; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Xuan Phong, deputy head of the Department of Planning and Finance; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Minh, director of Vietnam National Museum of Nature, standing deputy head of the project; representatives from agencies presided over the project components; and heads of project components.
Deputy head of the Department of Editorial Secretariat under the Government Office Nguyen Quang Tung; deputy head of the Department of Planning Management under the Ministry of Planning and Investment Dinh Lam Tan; and representative from the Department of Science, Education and Environment under the Ministry of Planning and Investment Pham Ngoc Quy also participated in the seminar.
The overview of the seminar
The project on “building Vietnam national nature specimen collections”, which consists of 35 components, was started in 2012. It is managed and steered by VAST with the participation of VAST’s institutes, museums in the system of Vietnam National Museum of Nature, universities and state management agencies.
The seminar aimed to review the five-year implementation of the project. It was an opportunity for scientists to make presentations and share information on the project implementation, advantages and difficulties in collecting samples, preserving and digitalizing data of samples.
Thirteen scientific reports were made, focusing on building database; researching scientific issues on protecting and preserving nature heritages; researching scientific issues on taxonomy, appraisal of biological specimens and geological samples; collection of specimens in the fields of paleontology, rock and minerals, terrestrial animals, plant and fungal species, marine organisms, biological resources, as well as making regulations on the management of specimens collection of the Vietnam National Museum of Nature and building etiket sample; collecting sample and managing database; difficulties and challenges in the implementation of component projects.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Minh, director of the Vietnam National Museum of Nature, and standing deputy head of the project, expressed his thanks to participants. He promised to continue sharing experiences and help overcome difficulties during the project implementation. He also asked component projects to do as scheduled and make reports to the Steering Committee of the Project and VAST if there is adjustment in comparison with approved project.
