Seminar "Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu - Distinguished Physicist" to celebrate 85th birthday of Academician (July 21, 1938 - July 21, 2023)
Attending the seminar were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Tuan Anh, Member of the Executive Committee of the Party Committee of Central Agencies, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST); Dr. Nguyen Quan, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Minister of Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Ho Si Thoang, former Deputy Director of Vietnam Academy of Sciences (now VAST); Prof. Nguyen Dai Hung, President of Vietnam Physics Association; Dr. Nguyen Bich Ha, wife of the late Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu; together with representatives of leaders of units inside and outside VAST, scientists, researchers, lecturers, and authors of articles in the book "Professor, Academician Nguyen Van Hieu – Distinguished Physcist".

Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Director of Vietnam Academy of Sciences (now VAST), Founding Director of the Institute of Physics, Institute of Materials Science, the first Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. The founding rector of the University of Technology (Hanoi National University) is a great scientist, a teacher of many generations of students, a brother, and a colleague of many generations of staff of the Institute of Science and Technology. Former Vietnamese scholar and VAST today, is a talented organizer and leader, a political activist with solid ideological qualities. He was awarded the Lenin Prize by the Soviet Union in 1986 and the Ho Chi Minh Prize in Science and Technology by the Vietnamese State in 1996, which are the most prestigious awards of the Soviet Union and Vietnam for research achievements.
Assigned by the Party and Government to be the highest leader of Vietnam Academy of Science and the National Center for Natural Science and Technology (period 1983-1994), Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu made important contributions to the cause of building and developing the country's science and technology, especially showing the role of innovation and creation, building new research and training institutions, developing new research and training institutions, andactively expanding international cooperation in order to mobilize support resources from advanced countries and international friends.
On the occasion of the 85th birth anniversary of Professor, Academician, People's Teacher Nguyen Van Hieu, Vietnam Physics Association collaborated with scientists from VAST, Hanoi National University, and National University Ho Chi Minh City, Ministry of Education and Training and localities, organize to collect materials, compile and publish the book "Professor, Academician Nguyen Van Hieu - Distinguished Physicist".
The book is a collection of articles by many people, bringing diverse, concise content, honest and emotional memories to the Academician from friends, colleagues, students, reporters, professional journalist. In particular, the articles reflect on the Academician's activities at different times during his 60 years of work, with great and outstanding contributions in many fields of activity: science and technology, education and training, leadership-management, international cooperation, promoting the application of scientific and technological research results to production and life. The fields of activities of Academician are very diverse, but closely linked; the materials and articles are arranged in a relative manner by topics: Outstanding scientist; The leader of the organization is talented, has a long-term vision, and is dedicated to developing the country's science and technology; Teachers spread passion to generations of students, dedicated to the cause of education and training; The aspiring scientist constantly applies science and technology to production and life practice.
The book helps to preserve valuable, rich and vivid documents about the activities and important contributions of Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu - a great scientist, leader, and talented organization for the country.
Posthumously awarded Vietnam Physics Association's Dedication Award to Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu
Speaking at the Conference, Dr. Nguyen Bich Ha, wife of Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu expressed emotion when attending the seminar "Professor, Academician Nguyen Van Hieu - Distinguished Physicist" on the teacher's 85th birthday. She also said that Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu once shared, “I am carrying a big debt, I am trying to pay it back bit by bit. During the war, when he told people his age to die on the battlefield, he was in the Soviet Union. Later as a leader, when he drove a car, how many people went barefoot. It's his debt to the country, to the people, he has to pay, but he worries that he won't be able to pay it off in this life." And today, Prof. Acad. Nguyen Van Hieu was posthumously awarded the Contribution Award by Vietnam Physics Association, along with the content of the report exchanged at the seminar, which showed that the Professor has partially fulfilled his desire to contribute to the country.
