Seminar on cast and gilt of bronze patterns of memorial of heroes and martyrs
On March 23rd, 2011, the High Command of President Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum held a seminar on solutions for protection of cast and gilt bronze patterns on memorial of heroes and martyrs, to collect ideas from scientists from Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
The seminar drew the participation of Major-General Nguyen Van Cuong, head of the Management Board of the President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum; Colonel Nguyen Van Cuong, deputy head of the Management Board of the President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum; Major-General Dang Nam Dien, Political Commissar of High Command of the President of Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum; Colonel Vu Cuan Dang, director of the Centre for Scientific Technology and Environment Studies and Application; Prof. Chau Van Minh, president of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Le Dinh Thao M.A., chief of the office of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Liem, head of Institute of Materials Sciences; Dr. Nguyen Quang Chinh, deputy head of Institute for Tropical Technology; scientists from the Institute of Materials Sciences, Institute of Tropical Technology; representatives from Vietnam Institute for Building Science and Technology under the Ministry of Construction and Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre.
Major-General Nguyen Van Cuong – head of the Management Board of President Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum presided over the seminar
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dai Lam from the Institute of Materials Science made a report on solutions on cast and gilt of bronze patterns of Bac Son memorial of heroes and martyrs. Solutions were much more complete than the previous solutions in 2006, showing the careful selection of copper alloy and casting technology. Patterns would be plated with high-quality materials. The surface would be protected by PU/PA polymer and composite consolidated in the back of the bronze patterns and mechanical assembly in order to minimize lack of adherance among patterns and points on the surface, and agents causing material erosion.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dai Lam from Institute of Materials Science made a report.
After the speech, scientists raised ideas on selecting materials, gilt technology and the use of polymer cover. According to High Command of President Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum, the report acquired advantages and overcame the shortcomings of previous solutions, and proposed the best solutions at the present time.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Liem, head of the Institute of Materials Science said that being aware of the importance of the project, the research group had many suppositions and tests on different samples to propose the best solutions as presented at the seminar.
Prof. Chau Van Minh, president of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology made a speech at the seminar
Prof. Minh thanked scientists for their ideas and asked the group of researchers to collect more ideas from experts to complete the report and propose the best solutions to the memorial. He expressed his hoped that the project would be carried out successfully, opening application capacity for similar constructions in Vietnam as well as marking the effective cooperation between Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the High Command of President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum.
