Seminar and Book Exhibition at Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

Attending the Seminar, on the side of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (Academy), there were Dr. Le Quynh Lien, Head of International Cooperation Department; MSc. Hoang Xuan Thuy, MSc. Chu Thi Hoai Thu, Deputy Chief of Office; MSc. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Deputy Head of Department Organization, and Personnel, leaders of a number of affiliated units with scientists and students. The event also had the participation of representatives of Hanoi National University of Education, Hanoi National University of Education 2, University of Foreign Languages ​​- Hanoi National University, Central Institute for Economic Management - Ministry of Planning and Investment, Digital Transformation Information Center - Ministry of Agriculture, and National Academy of Public Administration. 

Seminar "Book: Awareness - Innovation - Creation"

Every year, the Information and Documentation Center, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology organizes Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day, a combination of book seminars and exhibitions, in response to Book and Literature Day. Vietnamese reading culture April 21. This is an opportunity for the Information - Documentation Center to introduce valuable resources of the library of the Academy. Thereby, maximizing the value of the book for the research career of scientists, especially for young researchers, as well as for trainees and students.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Nga, Director of the Center for Information and Documentation: “The Seminar and Book Exhibition create an opportunity for scientists and units inside and outside the Academy to meet, exchange and share share about the resources of books and scientific and technological information, experiences in exploiting and using these resources effectively in their scientific research activities”. 

With the theme "Book: Awareness - Innovation - Creation", two speakers including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hai Khoi, - Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and Mr. Nguyen Canh Binh, - Chairman of Alpha Books, brought a lot of valuable information to listeners.

At the beginning of the talk, Mr. Nguyen Canh Binh had interesting sharing about the passion for reading that was formed since he was a primary school student. It was these first books that helped him have a broader view of knowledge, prompting him to explore more about the "new sky" of human knowledge. Since then, the President of Alpha Books has paid more attention to the line of science and technology books in Vietnam, engaging in the publishing industry instead of becoming a scientific researcher as the family's dream. As a person who is passionate about books and reading culture, Mr. Nguyen Canh Binh also admitted that today in the world of audiovisual and Internet, paper books are no longer as important as in the past. However, he believes that books are still the most sustainable way of knowledge.

From their personal reading experiences, the two speakers led the public to understand more about the value of each book, series, and reading style of generations past and present. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hai Khoi believes that reading books in the right way helps to enhance thinking, analytical skills and memory for readers. Reading culture today goes hand in hand with audiovisual culture. Moreover, reading books has long been included in poetry and painting as a cultural feature of the community. Currently, we have many options for reading books such as reading paper books, reading digital books. But reading paper books helps us feel, think more, more deeply, as well as stimulate the imagination better.

The seminar "Books: Awareness - Innovation - Creation" ended on the same day with the donation of books by the late People's Teacher Le Hai Chau to the Academy Library. The Center also received books donated by scientists from the Academy.

The Book Exhibition lasts from April 11th, 2023 to May 20th, 2023 at the VASS Library with the Academy's books and magazines; Monographs and journals of Natural Science and Technology Publishing House; Books by Einstein Books & More (Alpha Books); Pi Magazine (Vietnam Mathematical Association); Publication of IGroup Vietnam Company.
