Science and technology leaders discuss development and training

The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City National University are four units that play a key role in the strategy for science and technology development and training in Vietnam.  

 


During the working visit to Ho Chi Minh City National University on March 3rd 2012, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan requested a working session so that these four units could raise ideas and detailed requirements to effectively deploy the national science and technology development strategy.


On March 4th 2012, leaders from these four units held a meeting to prepare for the working session with the Deputy Prime Minister. The meeting also drew the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Planning and Investment. Representatives from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) participating in the meeting include Prof. Chau Van Minh, VAST president, Prof. Nguyen Dinh Cong and Prof. Duong Ngoc Hai, VAST vice presidents, Le Dinh Thao, VAST chief officer, and Assoc.Prof. Phan Ngoc Minh, head of the Department of Planning and Finance.

At the meeting, participants agreed that the working session with the Prime Minister would be an opportunity for the four leading national agencies on science and technology studies and training to report and make proposals on deploying the national strategy on science and technology training. It is hoped that the first working session will open a precedent for annual meetings between big agencies on science and technology studies and training with Party and Government leaders and other leaders from ministries, committees and relevant agencies.

As scheduled, each unit will make their own report to the Deputy Prime Minister at the working session. Four units will coordinate to prepare a brief common report, which contains high intellectual content and mentions urgent issues of national science and technology development.

Participants at the meeting discussed proposals for the coming working session which will focus on asking the Government to care for investment in science and technology as in the strategy, entrust units with self-control mechanisms to uphold the effectiveness of available potentials and solve big problems in science and technology, serving national development.


They also suggested that representatives from the Government office, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Science and Technology and other relevant agencies should participate in the coming working session.


This is the first time leaders from the four units have met to discuss cooperation and contribution to building the orientations and strategy on the national science and technology development. Leaders pledged to promote cooperation among the four units, promising to open new progress in relations between the four units in order to make contribution to building science and technology and training in Vietnam.
