VAST holds a regular press conference for the first 6 months of 2023
After opening the press conference, Vice President Tran Tuan Anh informed journalists about the outstanding results of VAST in the first 6 months of the year and the plan for the last 6 months of 2023. In the first 6 months of 2023, VAST has well performed the tasks under the direction of the Government and the Prime Minister such as: Stable operation of the Center for Earthquake Warning and Tsunami Warning, continued stable operation of VNREDSat-1 satellite, Center for DNA Testing of martyrs' remains, and monitoring station systems across the country to serve research as well as provide information to ministries, branches and localities in management; Ensure the operation of 02 International Centers for Mathematics and Physics under the auspices of UNESCO; Continue to implement the task of "Project on building a National Center for Big Data Storage and High-Performance Computing under VAST". Along with that, VAST focuses on implementing solutions to improve the quality of basic research, applied research and technology transfer, training high-quality human resources; and carry out research and development of technologies for green economic development and climate change response.
VAST has also chaired and coordinated in organizing many important events such as: Welcoming the Russian Federation Scientific Research Vessel named "Academician Oparin" at Nha Trang Port and implementing the 4th joint survey in the "Roadmap for cooperation in marine research in the period of 2018 - 2025" signed in 2018 between Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Nam (VAST) and Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), and the 8th survey trip by the vessel "Academician Oparin" between the two sides in the territorial waters of Vietnam; In collaboration with the Embassy of France in Vietnam and Airbus Group organizing the 10th anniversary of the successful launch of Vietnam's first Earth observation satellite VNREDSat-1; Exhibition of Science and Technology Achievements of VAST in Lao PDR in the Forum "Connecting technology, entrepreneurship and innovation Vietnam - Laos 2023"; Organize the second bilateral session between VAST and the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications; The workshop "Vietnam-Italy cooperation in synthetic aperture radar technology and application" was co-organized by the Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC) under VAST and the Embassy of Italy in Hanoi and the Italian Aerospace Technology Association; The 11th Vietnam-Korea Workshop on "Quantum Optics, Nanophysics and Science Education" within the framework of cooperation with Sogang University, Korea; Workshops on "Connecting technology for agricultural and horticultural development" in Hanoi, Nha Trang City and Can Tho City. This is the result of VAST's science and technology cooperation with the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO); Organizing international seminars at the affiliated unit level; In collaboration with the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) and the National Office of Intellectual Property (IPVietnam) organizing the training workshop "Skills for patent protection and commercialization of scientific research results".

In the last 6 months of 2023, VAST will continue to well implement projects and tasks assigned by the Government, the Prime Minister and key science and technology tasks at VAST level in order to apply research results to production practices in areas of special public concern such as: Biotechnology, DNA Technology for the Examination of Martyrs' Remains; Technology supports early warning of earthquakes and tsunami. In addition, promoting research works, especially focusing on improving the quality of international publications up to international standards; improve product quality of science and technology tasks; strengthen technology incubation, application of science and technology to production and life; develop and implement programs to attract highly qualified young scientists and staff. Promote the implementation of basic research programs, renovate the operation of the Academy's centers of excellence. At the same time, continue to negotiate and sign cooperation agreements with partners in the ASEAN region and countries with developed science and technology on the Academy's fields of strength such as marine science research, space technology, biotechnology, materials science, and natural compound chemistry.
At the meeting, reporters and journalists asked many questions to discuss more with representatives of VAST’s units to capture information and clarify the content that the Academy has provided. The questions mainly focused on issues of public concern today such as the energy sources of the future: Hydrogen and Hydrogen fuel cells, earthquake forecasting and tsunami warning in the last 6 months of 2023, DNA testing of martyrs' remains, the promotion of innovation and commercialization of science and technology at VAST. Also during the exchange, reporters and journalists expressed their hope to be further facilitated by VAST to be able to interact with scientists, promptly reflect on new research achievements of VAST and widely promote to readers.
On the occasion of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, Vice President Tran Tuan Anh congratulated journalists in general and especially journalists working in the field of science and technology. VAST would like to thank the companionship, support and cooperation of journalists for VAST in recent years and look forward to continuing to receive the active participation of journalists in transmitting information of VAST in particular and scientists in general to society, enhance the interest, support and sharing of the community, contributing to raising awareness of the importance of science and technology for the socio-economic development of the country.

At the end of the press conference, journalists and reporters visited Vietnam Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center and learned about the network of monitoring stations, equipment and instrumentation systems and were briefed on some of the activities of the information, earthquake alerts and tsunami warnings issued by Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of Institute of Geophysics.
