Promoting research and training cooperation between Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Belarusian partners
At the meeting, the President of VAST emphasized the traditional cooperation between VAST and Belarusian National Academy of Sciences (NASB) for more than 50 years with many important agreements and coordination contents in scientific and technological research. In particular, since 2007, Belarusian Academy and Foundation for Basic Research have signed agreements to finance joint research projects in many fields ranging from basic research such as biodiversity, physics or chemistry to potential research on the development of environmental treatment technologies, new materials, drones. With an average of 10 cooperation tasks implemented each year; of which about 85% is the cooperation of the two academies; the rest are with major Belarusian universities, in cooperation with Belarusian partners, demonstrating effectiveness through hundreds of joint publications, dozens of compounds with rich biological activity with potential application in medicine and pharmacy; dozens of new species of animals, plants and insects were discovered along with a number of technological processes for the production of pesticides, nanomaterials, and photovoltaic materials,...
Ambassador Vladimir Borovikov highly appreciated the results of bilateral cooperation and emphasized the potential for expanding cooperation in emerging fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence applications and nuclear safety. He also proposed to organize more joint scientific seminars between two sides to strengthen academic exchanges and connect researchers and emphasized that NASB and research institutions in Belarus are ready to cooperate in scientific research and technology transfer with VAST. In addition, the Ambassador also congratulated VAST for the friendly and effective cooperation not only with NASB but also with many academies around the world; increasingly demonstrating the role and position of Vietnamese science in the world.
In addition to the implementation of joint research, the issue of human resource training has been lively discussed by President Chau Van Minh, Ambassador Vladimir Borovikov and the delegates. VAST currently has three postgraduate training institutions, including Graduate University of Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi, and Institute of Mathematics with UNESCO International Center for Mathematics. In September 2024, VAST signed a cooperation agreement with Belarusian National University and Belarusian University of Information and Electronic Radio Technology. This is the basis for two sides to promote joint training programs, exchange lecturers and trainees and co-guide scientific theses. With the close association between the three training units and the research units at VAST, the training cooperation between VAST and Belarusian universities can be linked to many common research topics that are and will be implemented between two sides, linking training with research practices in both Vietnam and Belarus.
The discussions affirmed the determination to strengthen scientific, training and technological cooperation between VAST and Belarusian partners, in order to contribute to promoting sustainable development between two Academies and two countries, as well as fostering long-term friendship between Vietnam and Belarus.
