Promoting joint appointments to leverage science and technology resources between Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City

Attending the meeting on behalf of VAST were Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai, Member of the Party Central Committee and President of VAST; Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of VAST; Dr. Le Sy Tung, Deputy Secretary of the VAST Party Committee and Chief of Office; together with leaders of functional departments, research institutes and affiliated units. Overview of the working session between VAST and VNU-HCM

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai proposed strengthening cooperation with VAST in talent development, the co-supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students, and promoting academic exchanges between lecturers and scientists from both sides. VNU-HCM also expressed its hope that VAST experts would participate under a joint appointment mechanism to maximise the effective use of high-quality human resources, thereby enhancing education and training and research capacity while expanding training in strategic technology fields in which the two institutions share complementary strengths.

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai highly appreciated the cooperation potential between VAST and VNU-HCM in strategic technology fields. He stressed that research should be closely linked with human resource training and the creation of tangible outcomes. VAST stands ready to assign groups of experts to participate in programmes and research projects led by VNU-HCM, while coordinating to make effective use of international expert networks to strengthen the research and training capacities of both institutions. He expressed his hope that the partnership would produce practical science and technology outcomes contributing to the country's development.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed and agreed on key directions for cooperation in education and training, scientific research and international collaboration. VAST and VNU-HCM also agreed in principle to establish strong research groups to undertake key national science and technology tasks, jointly implement large-scale research projects and address challenges facing localities and businesses. At the same time, the two institutions will expand international cooperation, leverage the roles of the UNESCO Centres in Mathematics and Physics, and strengthen links with foreign partners to enhance Vietnam's scientific standing.
