Project "Application of GAINS model in air environment management in Vietnam" launched

On December 19th, 2017, the Centre for Research and Technology Transfer (CRETECH) and (International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) organized a ceremony to launch the project "Application of GAINS model in air environment management in Vietnam".

The organizing board and delegates pressed a button to launch the project.


The launching ceremony is in the framework of cooperation between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and IIASA. On May 31st, 2017, VAST issued Document 1108/VHL-HTQT to assign CRETECH to coordinate with IIASA to conduct the project.


The launching ceremony drew the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ninh Khac Ban, head of the Department of International Cooperation under VAST; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Dat and Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Tung – Vice director of CRETECH; representatives from units under VAST; Dr. Markus Amann, director of the programme  “Air Quality Management and Greenhouse Gas Emissions" (AIR); Dr. Nguyen Binh, expert from AIR project; representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources; the Ministry of Industry and Trade; the Ministry of Planning and Investment; the General Statistics Office of Vietnam; the Vietnam Environment Administration; Hanoi City Department of Environment and Natural Resources; and universities in Vietnam.


The project aims to develop a system for predicting the changing trends of air pollution in Vietnam, thereby helping local policy makers to make effective management plans on expenses and policies on air quality management in Vietnam.


At the ceremony, participants listened to detailed presentations on GAINS model by Dr. Markus Amann and the project by Dr. Truong An Ha. The organizing board received much attention from scientists and managers at the event.
