Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, received France’s Order of the Legion of Honor
Through nearly 40 years of officially established relationship, VAST and strategic partners from the French Republic have together built cooperation and sustainable development, from basic science to applied and high technology science. The proud achievements of the friendship marked the efforts of collectives, agencies and units, and the role of orientation and leadership of the typical individuals.
These good premises continue to be extended by the leadership of Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh, VAST President, which is promoted by a generation of young scientists at VAST. Not only actively contributing to the development of science and technology of the country, the long-term cooperation achievements also contributed to beautifying the friendship and solidarity between the two countries and the two cultures.
To recognize and honor the dedication of Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh in fostering cooperation in science and technology, the French State decided to award him the Order of the Legion of Honor (according to the decree signed by the French President on September 23, 2020). This is a noble and prestigious medal awarded to individuals and organizations with special contributions to the State of the French Republic.
French Ambassador to Vietnam, Nicolas Warnery, on behalf of the French State, awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor to Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh, VAST President
Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh is the first Vietnamese working in the field of natural science and technology to be awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor. As VAST President, he has supported and promoted the development of cooperation, training and transfer of some key technologies of the 21st century between French national research institutions and other VAST units. During the VAST Presidency of Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh, VAST and French partners have carried out nearly 200 cooperative projects, training hundreds of doctors and masters, many of whom are leading professors, associate professors, and scientists, as well as VAST units’ leaders.
Especially, Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh has actively negotiated and built a roadmap for cooperation with French partners to effectively implement two national projects supported by the French Government, including the project on Vietnam’s first earth observation satellite VNRED-Sat1 and the project on the building and developing the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (or Vietnam - France University), contributing to the training of a young generation of scientists that have research capacity to the world, writing new pages in the cooperation between VAST and French partners in particular, and between the two countries Vietnam and the French Republic in general.

Speaking at the order awarding ceremony, Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh said that this was not only a great honor and a noble reward for himself, but also a recognition of the contributions made by VAST generations in promoting long-term and sustainable cooperation activities with many research and higher education institutions in France, contributing to strengthening the strategic cooperation relationship between Vietnam - France.
On this occasion, he sent his thanks to the French State and people, French President Emmanuel Macron, the French ambassadors to Vietnam in recent terms and Ambassador Nicolas Warnery for acting on behalf of the French State to present the order. He also thanked the French partners for their support and coordination with him and the VAST over the past time, and gave special thanks to the generations of VAST leaders, scientists and staff over the years, which he said had contributed to this effective and long-term cooperative relationship.

On behalf of VAST leaders, VAST Vice President, Prof. Dr. Phan Ngoc Minh affirmed the important role of Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh in promoting cooperation in science, technology and education and training with French partners, asserting that the Order of the Legion of Honor awarded to Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh is the French State's acknowledgment of the achievements of this cooperative relationship in recent years.
The VAST representative showed his thanks to the French State for awarding Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh and VAST this honor, adding that he hoped in the future, under the leadership of Professor and Academic Chau Van Minh, VAST President, the efforts of VAST scientists and staff, as well as the support of the French Ambassador, French diplomats and French university research and education organizations, the cooperation between the two sides would be increasingly strengthened and sustainably developed.
