Prof. Acad. Le Truong Giang, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Awarded Fellowship of the International Association of Academies of Sciences
The IAAS Fellowship is a prestigious title awarded to a select number of distinguished scientists who hold leadership roles and exert significant influence within the international scientific community. Since its inception in 2019 up to the 37th Session in 2024, IAAS has elected 54 Fellows from among thousands of outstanding scientists affiliated with its member organizations.
With the recognition of Prof. Acad. Le Truong Giang, Vietnam now has two scientists honored with this title (Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh – President of VAST, was elected in 2019). This achievement represents not only a source of personal pride but also clear evidence of the growing maturity and deeper international integration of Vietnamese science on the global stage.

Prof. Acad. Le Truong Giang is a leading expert in various fields of chemistry, including analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, food toxicology, optimization, and more. He has led and participated in numerous research projects of both fundamental and practical value, ranging from modeling the kinetics of chemical reactions to developing technologies for the treatment of persistent organic pollutants in the environment and controlling toxins in food. He has published hundreds of scientific papers in prestigious international journals, which have been highly regarded by the global scientific community and have had wide academic impact.
With a strong academic background and extensive international experience, in his current capacity, Prof. Acad. Le Truong Giang has directly guided and spearheaded strategic research cooperation programs between VAST and many renowned international research organizations, such as the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD), the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), among others. Notably, bilateral cooperation programs between VAST and IAAS member organizations have not only facilitated academic exchanges and joint research and training initiatives between scientists of both sides, but also strengthened connections among IAAS members and enriched IAAS’s activities. These efforts contribute to fulfilling IAAS’s mission as a multilateral international organization working collectively toward global scientific and technological advancement.
Such activities also reflect Vietnam’s efforts to bring its latest scientific achievements to the world, affirming the contributions, integration, and growing standing of Vietnamese science in the international arena.

The IAAS Fellowship is a shared honor for VAST, and a clear testament to a generation of Vietnamese scientists who combine in-depth research expertise with strong international connectivity, ready to contribute their intellect in an era of national advancement.
International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS)
The International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS) was established on September 23, 1993, with the mission of becoming a multilateral scientific and technological organization that connects academies of sciences worldwide to jointly contribute to global scientific development. At present, IAAS has 27 official members, including many academies with long-standing traditions and remarkable achievements, such as Russian Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has been a founding member of IAAS since 1993. The IAAS Council, comprising the heads of member organizations, is the Association’s highest governing body and decides on all matters concerning IAAS activities through a consensus mechanism; it convenes annually in mid-September.
The IAAS Fellowship title was initiated in 2019 with the aim of honoring outstanding scientists not only in their research achievements but also in their leadership in fostering cooperation and connecting academic institutions. The nomination and awarding process takes place across three consecutive Council Sessions: (i) in the first year, nominations are submitted by member organizations and a shortlist of candidates is approved; (ii) in the second year, the Council votes to elect new IAAS Fellows and adopts a resolution confirming the list; and (iii) in the third year, the certificate and Fellowship insignia are formally presented at an official Council Session (IAAS confers the title exclusively and directly to individuals elected by the Council).
