Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh, President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Receives the Title of Ambassador of Science and Education of Russian Federation

On February 5, 2026, in Hanoi, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Vietnam, in coordination with Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), solemnly held a ceremony to confer the title “Ambassador of Science and Education of the Russian Federation” upon Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh – Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences, President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. The event also accompanies the election of Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh as an Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences in 2025.

The title Ambassador of Science and Education of the Russian Federation is a prestigious distinction initiated by Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation together with the Union of Russian Universities, aimed at honoring and entrusting a connecting mission to individuals with prestige and influence within the global scientific and educational community, thereby contributing to the dissemination of Russian scientific and technological knowledge, values, and traditions worldwide.

Attending the ceremony, on the side of the Russian Federation were Mr. Genady Stepanovich Bezdetko – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Vietnam; and Mr. Vladimir Murashkin – Director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Vietnam. On the side of VAST were Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh – Secretary of the Party Committee and President of VAST; Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai – Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Standing Vice President of VAST; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui The Duy – Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice President of VAST; Prof.Acad. Le Truong Giang, Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha, and Prof. Dr. Tran Tuan Anh – Vice Presidents of VAST, together with representatives of the leadership of units under the Academy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Genady Stepanovich Bezdetko congratulated Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh on receiving the title Ambassador of Science and Education of the Russian Federation, and highly appreciated the leading role of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in research and training cooperation with Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian universities, and scientific and educational organizations. The Ambassador affirmed that VAST is a trusted partner with strong academic depth and strategic vision, playing an effective bridging role between the scientific communities of the two countries. In particular, the personal prestige and coordination capacity of Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh in his capacity as President of VAST are important factors in maintaining the continuity of traditional cooperation while opening up new, substantive directions for collaboration that meet the current requirements of science and technology development.

The Ambassador also emphasized that the appointment of Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh as Ambassador of Science and Education of the Russian Federation is based on his well-established academic reputation. In May 2025, Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh was elected as a Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, recognizing his outstanding contributions to scientific research and the promotion of international cooperation. On that basis, together with his academic training and professional development within the Russian education system, Academician Gennady Krasnikov – President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Academician Viktor Sadovnichy – Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University, recommended Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh for selection by the Association of Russian Universities to participate in the Russian Science and Education Ambassadors Programme.

Sharing this view, Mr. Vladimir Murashkin – Director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Vietnam, emphasized the role of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology not only in promoting cooperation in research and training, but also in disseminating the values of Russian science, education, and culture in Vietnam, while contributing to strengthening mutual understanding and cultural ties between the peoples of the two countries — a sustainable foundation for long-term cooperation.

In response to the respect and trust extended by his Russian colleagues and friends, Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh expressed his honor and pride at being awarded the title of Ambassador of Science and Education of the Russian Federation. He also conveyed his sincere gratitude to teachers, colleagues, and friends from both Vietnam and the Russian Federation who have accompanied him throughout his journey of study, research, and professional work. Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh emphasized that this recognition is not only a personal honor but also a responsibility to continue the tradition of scientific and educational cooperation between the two countries in the new stage. VAST will continue to promote its core role in training high-quality human resources in science and technology, advancing in-depth research cooperation in emerging technological fields, fostering technology development and innovation, and gradually assuming the role of a focal point connecting science, technology, and education cooperation between the Russian Federation and Vietnam, as well as with the wider region and the world.

Prof. Tran Hong Thai – Vice President of VAST delivers congratulatory remarks

On behalf of more than 3,000 staff members and scientists of VAST, Prof. Tran Hong Thai, Vice President of VAST, respectfully congratulated Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh and expressed his confidence that the title of Ambassador of Science and Education of the Russian Federation will continue to spread the spirit of connection and cooperation throughout the Academy. Accordingly, every staff member and scientist, especially those who studied and conducted research in the Russian Federation, will join hands to further build and enrich the “knowledge bridge” between Vietnam and Russia under the leadership of the Ambassador of Science and Education, Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh.

Held in the joyful atmosphere of the new spring season, the ceremony awarding the title of Ambassador of Science and Education of the Russian Federation to the President of VAST also formed part of activities marking the Vietnam–Russia Cross Year of Science and Education 2026. The event once again affirmed that science and education are important pillars contributing to deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, while opening up new, substantive, and sustainable prospects for cooperation in the next stage of development.
