The process of separating and recovering Ammonium (NH4+) in wastewater at high pH conditions by using centrifugal rotating packing material equipment combined with air blowing. Adjusting the pH of wastewater to a high level and using centrifugal rotating packing material equipment, along with a suitable ratio between air flow and wastewater will help remove Ammonium from wastewater, aiming to reduce total Kendal nitrogen (TNK) in wastewater and recover the amount of nitrogen of ammonium in wastewater to serve agriculture, bringing high economic value.

In Vietnam, in the past 15 years, there has only been research and practical application of Stripping Tower to remove Ammonium from leachate. However, the disadvantage is low treatment efficiency while the treatment time is long. Therefore, finding a solution to remove Ammonium from wastewater with high efficiency, short treatment time, saving energy and construction area is extremely necessary.

The useful solution refers to the process of separating and recovering Ammonium (NH4+) in wastewater by using a centrifugal rotating packing material device, including the following steps: adjusting to raise the pH of the treated wastewater to 10.5; removing Ammonia (NH3) existing in wastewater with a pH=10.5 by using a centrifugal rotating packing material device with a suitable structure and operating mode, through the phase transition process to convert NH3 from liquid to gas phase between tiny water particles of the wastewater stream when passing through the packing material block and the air flow entering in the opposite direction, the air flow carries NH3 into the central space and out of the central air outlet pipe, the wastewater that has removed ammonia is discharged through the water outlet pipe; adjusting to reduce the pH of the wastewater after ammonia separation treatment to 7.5.

As shown above, the process according to the useful solution allows to separate the majority of Ammonium (NH4+) from wastewater with high efficiency in an extremely short time; helps to save operating costs; reduces equipment size, area and construction installation space; as well as recovers the amount of nitrogen in wastewater for agricultural applications by absorbing NH3 gas in the wastewater stream that has been carried away by the gas stream. The process of separating and recovering Ammonium in wastewater provides a new solution to treat the amount of nitrogen polluting in wastewater, not only having economic - social environmental significance but also an important improvement in the technical field whose main focus is wastewater treatment technology, helping to minimize pollution while aiming at a circular economy and sustainable development.
