Prime Minister appoints Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai as Standing Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

On September 3, 2025, the Prime Minister issued Decision 1886/QD-TTg on the appointment of Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Council - as Standing Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai was born in 1974 in Ha Tinh. He graduated in Automation and Process Control of Thermal Energy from Russia in 1997; he earned his PhD in Earth Sciences and Mathematics from Heidelberg University (Germany) in 2005
In 2011, he was recognized as Associate Professor in Earth Sciences, interdisciplinary Earth Science – Mining. In 2019, he was promoted to Professor in Earth Sciences, interdisciplinary Earth Science – Mining

Career history:

From 2010 to 2013: Deputy Director of the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment; concurrently Director of the Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment Consulting Center, Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment
From January 2014 to March 2018: Deputy General Director of the National Center for Hydrometeorology. When the National Center was converted into the General Department of Hydrometeorology, Tran Hong Thai held the position of Deputy General Director
From April 2018 to March 2019: In charge of the General Department of Hydrometeorology
From March 2019 to October 2023: General Director of the General Department of Hydrometeorology
From October 2023 to August 2024: Deputy Minister of Science and Technology
From August 2024 to July 2025: Deputy Secretary of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee
From July 2025 to September 2025: Deputy Secretary of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Council
From September 2025: Standing Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

With this appointment, the leadership of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology currently includes President Prof. Dr. Chau Van Minh; four Vice Presidents: Standing Vice President Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai; Vice President Prof. Dr. Le Truong Giang; Vice President Prof. Dr. Tran Tuan Anh; and Vice President Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha.
