President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Receives and Works with Weathernews Inc. Group: Promoting the Application of Advanced Heavy Rain Warning Technology and AI in Disaster Prevention

On the afternoon of July 29, 2026, in Hanoi, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai – President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) held a courtesy reception and working session with a delegation from Weathernews Inc. (WNI), Japan, led by Mr. Nishibayashi Masachika, Regional Director for Southeast Asia. The working session focused on updating the latest technological developments of WNI, particularly advanced heavy rain warning technology, while in-depth discussions were held on the practical application potential of this technology in Vietnam, with a focus on the Hanoi region, to effectively serve disaster forecasting and warning activities; opening up opportunities for technology transfer and joint research between WNI and specialized institutes under VAST.

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai welcomed the WNI delegation on their visit and collaboration. The VAST President highly appreciated WNI's standing and capabilities. He emphasized the urgent need to enhance forecasting capacity and apply modern science and technology in disaster prevention in Vietnam, while suggesting several practical challenges that WNI could coordinate to resolve.

Representing WNI, Mr. Nishibayashi Masachika provided updates on WNI's latest technological developments. Currently, WNI is working closely with world-leading technology corporations such as Google and NVIDIA to continuously update and refine advanced forecasting models. He affirmed that WNI would coordinate closely with specialized units of VAST to detail and implement cooperation proposals.

Concluding the meeting, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai directed specialized units, led by the Institute of Geological Sciences together with the Department of Training and International Cooperation, to work directly with WNI's expert team to swiftly agree on a cooperation framework and build concrete action plans, contributing to bringing scientific and technological results into effectively serving Vietnam's disaster prevention work.
