President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology meets Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan

On January 11, 2023, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, and President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), had a meeting with Mr. Shovgi Mehdizade, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Vietnam. In attendance were Dr. Le Quynh Lien, Head of International Cooperation Department, and leaders of several units under VAST.

Ambassador Shovgi Mehdizade was appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Vietnam from December 2022. He said that the two countries Vietnam and Azerbaijan have a good traditional friendly relationship cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh and the late Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev since the 50s and 60s of the twentieth century; and high-level visits by the leaders of the two countries in 2014 and 2015. Azerbaijan also received many Vietnamese students in the 60-80s of the twentieth century, and some Azerbaijani officials also went to Vietnam to work during this period. Azerbaijan is also a country with a background in information technology, physics, atomic energy, geography, oil and gas research and is very willing to exchange and share technology and scientific information with VAST.

Speaking at the meeting, President Chau Van Minh said that some staff of VAST had studied in Azerbaijan and are now leading experts in the field of biotechnology. It is known that the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan has an organizational structure and research directions quite similar to that of VAST, and President Chau Van Minh also proposed, through the Ambassador and Embassy of Azerbaijan, cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The two sides can conduct delegation exchange, student exchange, and joint research through funding from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Science Development Fund under the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. President Chau Van Minh also invited the delegation of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan to visit and work with VAST to exchange and cooperate in scientific research.

On the occasion of the new year and Vietnamese traditional New Year, President Chau Van Minh and Ambassador Shovgi Mehdizade exchanged best wishes and hoped that the two sides would work together towards a long-term development cooperation relationship.
