Presenting VAST insignia to Quach Phung Dieu

On December 23rd, 2014, a ceremony to present the insignia of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) to Quach Phung Dieu, Counselor of Science – Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi.

The ceremony drew the participation of Prof. Chau Van Minh, President of VAST, representatives of VAST Office, Department of Personnel Organization, the Department of International Cooperation, the Institute of Geography and staff of Department of International Cooperation.

In 2014, thanks to the Department of Science under Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi, in charge of Quach Phung Dieu, VAST had science and technology cooperation with scientific research units of Taiwan such as the visit by the Taiwan Oceanic University to the Institute of Marine Biochemistry and the visit by the Pedagogical University of Taiwan. In addition, VAST also had exchanges and prepared for an agreement signing ceremony with the Science Council of Taiwan (the Ministry of Science and Technology of Taiwan at present) and agreement with the Applied Research Laboratories of Taiwan. Several units under VAST such as the Vietnam National Museum of Nature, the Institute of Marine Environment Resources and the Institute of Geophysics signed cooperation agreements on science and technology with the Institute of Taiwan.

Besides, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi also provided scholarship programmes and workshops in Taiwan to young scientists from VAST and created favourable conditions for them to study. In 2014, VAST allocated the Ministry of Science and Technology eight cooperation task protocols and one joint workshop with Taiwan during the 2015-2017 period.

VAST decided to present the insignia to Mr. Quach Phung Dieu to recognize his positive contribution to promoting science and technology cooperation between VAST and the Ministry of Science and Technology, universities and institutes of Taiwan.

Have been working in Vietnam over the past five years, after being awarded the insignia, Mr. Quach Phung Dieu thanked the President of VAST and his colleagues and scientists from VAST for their enthusiastic reception and open exchange during his visits or Taiwan delegations’ visits to VAST. He hoped that VAST would continue giving enthusiastic support to his successor in the near future and wished the cooperation between the two sides would be further promoted.
