Presenting insignia to counselor of Japanese Embassy in Vietnam

The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) on September 17, 2015 held an official meeting to present an insignia to Daito Michio, economic counselor of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam as he reached  the end of his tenure in Vietnam. Professor and Academic Chau Van Minh, VAST President, together with representatives from VAST units such as the International Cooperation Department, the Personnel Department and the National Satellite Center, attended the event. Ms Daito Michio and Mr. Daito Michio’s successor in the new term, also participated in the meeting.

During his term which lasted from August, 2011 to September, 2015, Mr. Daito Michio made active contributions to the effective cooperation between VAST and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) in terms of the development of space science, technology and its application; to the signing of the agreement on loan between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the project on dealing with natural disasters and climate change using the earth observation satellite (the Vietnam Space Center project). He also gave comprehensive support for the Vietnam Space Center project, especially for negotiations so that Vietnam could receive satellite technology from Japan. At present, he is supporting the promotion of information exchange in preparations for the project “Vietnam – Japan advanced technology center”.


Speaking during the meeting, Professor and Academic Chau Van Minh, VAST President, appreciated and thanked Mr. Daito Michio for his active assistance, wishing him success in the new position, expressing his hope that Mr. Nakajima – Mr. Daito Michio’s successor would continue to support the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan in the areas relating to scientific and technological development and space application in the future.


Mr. Daito Michio shared his feelings about the life and work during his mission in Vietnam. He pledged that after returning to Japan and taking the position as Minister of Economics, Trade and Industry of Japan, he would continue to support the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan in terms of space technology development. By the end of the meeting, VAST President and participants took commemorative photographs with Mr. Daito Michio and his family. The meeting took place in a formal and close atmosphere.
