Preliminary conference for first 6 months of 2024 and plan for last 6 months of 2024 of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

Overview of the conference

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh emphasized that 2024 will continue to be a year with many difficulties, and in the next six months, in addition to regular tasks according to functions, we must well perform many tasks assigned by the Government and the Prime Minister in 2024,  especially the formulation and submission to the Government according to Resolution 45 of the Central Committee is the Project "Strengthening the capacity of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology on par with advanced countries in the region and in the world". Therefore, at this Conference, in addition to summarizing the results achieved in the first six months of 2024 and implementing the orientation and tasks of the last six months of the year, President Chau Van Minh suggested that the delegates jointly analyze and discuss focusing on the main issues including: (1) Assess of the comprehensive implementation of the Academy's activities in the first six6 months of 2024, achieved results, limitations, difficulties and challenges; (2) Give opinions on tasks and solutions that need to be drastically implemented to successfully complete the tasks of the whole year 2024 (including regular tasks according to functions and tasks assigned by the Party Central Committee, the Government and the Prime Minister); (3) Propose and recommend for the leadership and direction of VAST to remove difficulties and promote research, implementation and training activities of VAST.

At the conference, Dr. Bui Trong Tuyen, Director of the Planning and Finance Department, has reported on the preliminary work of the first six months of 2024 and the plan for the last six months of 2024. Accordingly, 2024, the fourth year of the period 2021 - 2025, is a year that plays a particularly important role in completing the goals and plans of the period according to Resolution 178-NQ/ĐUVHL dated September 10, 2020 of the VIII Congress of Party Deputies of VAST for the term 2020-2025. Despite facing many difficulties and challenges, all officials, scientists, officials and employees at VAST have united and strived to well implement the set plans. In the first six months of 2024, VAST will continue to maintain good achievements in science and technology activities. Science and technology programs managed by VAST such as key projects at VAST level, Physics Program, Mathematics Program, Technology Program 4.0, 08 priority science and technology directions, Green Growth Program; four basic science programs on life sciences, earth sciences, marine science and technology, national chemistry by 2025... implemented as planned; as of mid-May 2024, VAST’s scientists have published 635 works internationally and 98 works published domestically. Basic investigation activities are still well implemented and many encouraging results have been obtained; applied research activities and technology deployment are also actively implemented by scientists of VAST. Since the beginning of the year, the units in VAST have been granted 53 Patents and Utility Solution Patents; The organization of cadres at VAST continues to be consolidated. VAST continues to arrange and streamline departmental and equivalent organizations at its affiliated units; the work of increasing the potential of cadres continues to be well implemented through the Program to attract young scientists, the Program to support young cadres, the Program to support senior researchers and the Program to develop excellent research teams; other regular activities of VAST in terms of office, international cooperation, planning and finance and inspection, continue to achieve good results.

In addition, VAST is also well implementing the following tasks: earthquake news and tsunami warning; Project 515 regulating and identifying martyrs lacks information; museum work at the Oceanographic Museum and the Vietnam Museum of Nature; two Type II International Centres for Mathematics and Physics under the auspices of UNESCO are being implemented under the Agreement; Graduate University of Science and Technology and the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), Institute of Mathematics have well implemented the training, from the beginning of 2024 until now, they have organized the enrollment of doctoral students, graduate students, students and the quality of training is increasingly improved.

VAST also actively implements the tasks assigned by the Party Central Committee, the Government and the Prime Minister such as developing the Project on Strengthening the Capacity of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology on par with advanced countries in the region and the world according to Plan 20 and Resolution 45 of the 13th Party Central Committee; the project on researching basic sciences and developing basic technologies of specific biotechnology for Vietnam meets the requirements in the new situation according to the Government's Resolution 189 on the implementation of Resolution 36 of the Politburo on the development and application of biotechnology for the sustainable development of the country in the new situation; The Institute is also continuing to implement major projects and tasks assigned by the Prime Minister such as: Vietnam Space Center Project, Hanoi University Project.,...

In general, after 6 months of implementation at the beginning of the year, VAST is basically implementing the 2024 plan and continuing to complete the goals of the Resolution of the Party Committee of the VIII Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. In addition to the goals that have been completed early, there are also a number of goals that need to be further implemented in the coming time to achieve the set requirements.

At the Conference, the delegates listened to the preliminary report on the work of the Organization - Personnel and Inspection Committee, the International Cooperation Department, the Technology Application and Implementation Department, the Office. At the same time, the conference also exchanged and discussed the remaining difficulties and obstacles and limitations in the implementation of projects and tasks...; as well as providing practical solutions to remove obstacles, thereby contributing to the successful completion of assigned tasks in 2024 of affiliated units and of VAST in general.
