Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Secretariat, Truong Tan Sang, pays a working visit to the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology

  On August 25th, 2010, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Secretariat, Truong Tan Sang, paid a working visit to the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology.

He was received by Prof. Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology; Prof. Nguyen Dinh Cong, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Sciences  and Technology; leaders from functional departments and units under the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology.


The Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology, a leading scientific and technological agency of the country, plays a leading role in the national scientific and technological system, and conducts basic research on natural sciences and comprehensive and high-standard technological development. Up to 2010, there are 31 institutes and 6 units under the academy, 9 state enterprises, 20 production alliances and 21 units under institutions. There are more than 25,000 cadres, including 217 professors and associate professors; 675 doctors and doctors of science; and 610 masters. In addition, there are also nearly 1,200 scientific workers who are working at units under the academy according to long-term labour contracts. With the staff of highly qualified scientific workers, the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology serves national socio-economic development.

Apart from the report made by President of the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology, Prof. Chau Van Minh, during the working session, Mr. Sang also acknowledged ideas of institutes under the academy about preferential policies for scientific researchers, issues in commerce of scientific works, experiences in attracting talent to sciences in Vietnam, and scientific research about seas in Vietnam at present.

On behalf of the party and state, Mr. Sang appreciated contributions made by the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology. He also said he hoped with the position of the leading center for scientific and technological studies, the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology will continue to promote the high quality human resources in order to research and apply sciences and technology, directly contributing to the national development.

After the working session with leaders of the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology, Mr. Sang paid visits to the Tsunami and Earthquake Warning Center under the Institute of Geophysics, the National Key Laboratory of Gene Technology Institute of Biotechnology under the Institute of Biotechnology and the Institute of Materials Sciences, that are the largest institutes under the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology.
