Overview of the ceremony
Attending the ceremony were Acad. Prof. Chau Van Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, President of VAST; Acad. Prof. Dang Vu Minh – Former Member of the Party Central Committee, Former President of VAST, Honorary Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Associations and Science and Technology; Colonel Tran Dung Tri - Son of the late Acad. Prof. Tran Dai Nghia, Former President of Vietnam Academy of Sciences; Dr. Nguyen Bich Ha – wife of Acad. Prof. Nguyen Van Hieu, Former Director of Vietnam Academy of Sciences; and comrades in the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Leaders of the Academy over the periods, Chairman of the Trade Union, Secretary of the Youth Union, Chairman of the Veterans Association and representatives of leaders of units under VAST.

Speaking at the ceremony, Acad. Prof. Chau Van Minh emphasized that the Party Committee and the leaders of VAST have decided that two important works of VAST are named after two outstanding scientists, as well as two talented leaders of VAST, in order to solemnly honor two typical monuments of Vietnam's revolutionary intellectuals; at the same time, arousing the pride of generations of science and technology staff today and in the future, it is also a reminder of the responsibility to continue building VAST to become a leading scientific and technological research center in the region and in the world and together with the country entered the era of national growth.
Acad. Prof. Chau Van Minh also expressed his sincere thanks to representatives of the family of Major General, Labor Hero, Academician, Professor Tran Dai Nghia; Representative of the family of Academician, Professor Nguyen Van Hieu; together with leaders, scientists, and all staff who have always accompanied each step of the Academy's development.

| Major General, Hero of Labor, Academician, Professor Tran Dai Nghia is an outstanding talent, who has been very successful in the career of advanced scientific and technological research in the French Republic since 1935. In 1946, he was the first Vietnamese in France to be selected by President Ho Chi Minh to bring home with him, named "TRAN DAI NGHIA" with the belief and desire that he would make extremely important contributions to the cause of national liberation struggle and national construction. In the years 1946-1954 of the arduous resistance war, Acad. Prof. Tran Dai Nghia designed and directed the army to manufacture many powerful weapons, laid the foundation for the revolutionary defense industry, and at the same time raised the morale of our army, contributing to gradually bringing the resistance war against France to the goal of victory in 1954. Acad. Prof. Tran Dai Nghia has devoted his life to serving the Fatherland. His name and vivid images of diverse activities and important contributions to the country are everywhere, preserved in the hearts of many generations of soldiers, science and technology and intellectuals in general, of the people and international friends. Especially, for Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, he was the founding Director of Vietnam Academy of Sciences (the predecessor of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) from the establishment of the Government in 1975 until 1983. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the period of 1983-1994, Academician and Professor Nguyen Van Hieu successfully succeeded Academician and Professor Tran Dai Nghia, leader of Vietnam Academy of Sciences and built the National Center for Natural Sciences and Technology, implementing the Government's request to promote technological research for national development. Academician, Academician Nguyen Van Hieu is a well-known theoretical physicist in the world, was awarded Professor of Physics at the prestigious Lomonosov University at the age of 30 (1968), was awarded the Lenin Prize for Science and Engineering by the Soviet State in 1986, The State of Vietnam awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Science and Technology in 1996. With transcendent intellect and excellent international leadership and cooperation capacity, Academician, Professor Nguyen Van Hieu have effectively supported scientific and technological activities, inspired and supported the training of high-quality human resources for different industries and fields, always supported basic scientific research to serve as a foundation for high-tech development, for applied research, serving the development of the country with science and technology. |
