20/08/2019
Scientists at the Institute of Tropical Biology under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) have described and announced a new species of plant belonging to the Taccaceae family from Hon Ba Nature Reserve, Khanh Hoa province. The new species was named Tacca khanhhoaensis V.S. Dang & Vuong, the name of the species was named after Khanh Hoa province where the sample of the plant had been collected. This result is partly funded by the Component Project Code BSTMV.20 / 16-21 under the project on building a national specimen collection of nature of Vietnam.

The new species Tacca khanhhoaensis V.S. Dang & Vuong has similar characteristics to the other two Taccaceae species, Tacca chantrieri André which is distributed on a wide area and Tacca ampliplacenta L. Zhang & Q.-J. Li which is only found in Yunnan, China. However, the Tacca khanhhoaensis V.S. Dang & Vuong species has distinct characteristics compared to the two species mentioned above in the fact that its flowers are shorter than the leaves, with the smaller number of flowers and the color of the flowers.
