NA Committee on Science, Technology and Environment visit VAST

On August 22nd 2014, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) honorably welcomed representatives from the National Assembly (NA) Committee on Science, Technology and Environment led by Phan Xuan Dung, member of Party Central Committee, member of NA Standing Committee, and head of the NA Committee on Science, Technology and Environment.

The delegation also drew the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance, the Department of Science, Technology and Environment under the Office of NA.

The delegation was welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Van Kiem, Vice President of VAST and leaders of functional departments and units under VAST.

At the working session, representatives from VAST made a report on the implementation of science and technology tasks and budget 2014, orientations for 2015 and the implementation of the self-control and responsibility mechanism (Decree 115/2005/NĐ-CP, 96/2010/VĐ-CP, 80/2007/NĐ-CP).

Based on assigned norms, VAST promptly allocated all estimated norms to all research units under VAST according to state regulations. VAST checked and implemented procedures to adjust projects ending in 2014 to submit to the president of VAST for approval in order to timely arrange plans for 2015.

On the implementation of Decree 115/2005/NĐ-CP and Decree 96/2010/VĐ-CP, VAST Party Committee intensified the leadership and arrangements for the change of state enterprises according to the plan approved by the Government in the 2011-2015 period.

Also at the working session, VAST mentioned several shortcomings and proposed difficulties in work to leaders of the NA Committee on Science, Technology and Environment and ministries and committees.

Concluding the working session, Mr. Dung appreciated the results provided by VAST over the past time. On VAST’s proposals, the committee will support and create conditions for scientists to keep their minds on their work and build VAST into a leading technology development and scientific research center in Vietnam with highly-professional staff and advanced technical facilities to meet the demand of science and technology development and national sustainable socio-economic development.
