Meeting with journalists on the occasion of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day June 21

On May 29, 2024, on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1922-June 21, 2024), Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) held a meeting with journalists of the Vietnam Science and Technology Journalists Club at Me Linh Biodiversity Station, part of the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, VAST.

Attending the meeting were Associate Professor, PhD. Tran Tuan Anh - Member of the Party Executive Committee of the Central Agencies Sector, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice President of VAST; Associate Professor, PhD. Ha Quy Quynh - Head of the Department of Organization - Personnel and Inspection; Associate Professor. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Tung - Deputy Head of the Department of Organization - Personnel and Inspection; Dr. Le Hung Anh - Director of the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources; MSc. Hoang Xuan Thuy - Deputy Chief of the Academy Office and all staff of the Me Linh Biodiversity Station, on the side of the Science and Technology Journalists Club were Journalist Ha Hong - Chairman of the Club and reporters working in the field of science and technology.

On the occasion of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, Vice President Tran Tuan Anh, on behalf of the Institute's Leadership, sent congratulations to journalists in general and science and technology journalists of the Club in particular. VAST thanks journalists for the companionship, support and collaboration of scientists in VAST and looks forward to continuing to receive the companionship of journalists in conveying science and technology information of the Academy and of scientists to society, contributing to raising awareness of the importance of science and technology for socio-economic development, increasing interest, support and sharing. community sharing in scientific research.

Speaking at the meeting, Journalist Ha Hong - Chairman of Vietnam Science and Technology Journalists Club respectfully thanked VAST for organizing the meeting to show the scientists' interest in journalists. The meeting is also an opportunity for journalists to exchange experience and gain more scientific and technological information in the field, biological resources, and conservation of Vietnam's biodiversity.

Me Linh Biodiversity Station was established in 1999 with a total land area of 170.3 hectares, including 131.1 hectares of protection forest, 36.6 hectares of production forest and 2.6 hectares of administrative area, with research function on biodiversity in Vietnam.

After more than 20 years of operation, from hills and mountains that were mainly grass and shrubs, now the entire 170.3 hectares have basically been restored into evergreen closed forests, seasonal semi-deciduous closed forests, and mixed closed forests with bamboo and broad-leaved trees including large tree species, coverage increased significantly; forest quality was significantly improved.

The station has also collected and planted many native tree species with over 8,000 trees; Collecting from different ecological regions more than 600 samples of over 80 orchid species to plant in the 600 m2 Orchid conservation garden; Growing 34 species of medicinal plants in the 1-hectare medicinal plant conservation garden.

At the 1-hectare animal rescue and conservation area, there are currently 100 individuals of 12 species of turtles, white-cheeked gibbons, and monkeys. The breeding area has reptiles and frogs of conservation value such as: Crocodile lizards, Toadfish group, Gecko group, Lumpy tree frogs.

Me Linh Biodiversity Station is also a place to visit, study and experience for free for students, as well as researchers and teaching staff in fields related to biology.
