Meeting of the Steering Committee of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology on Science, Technology, Innovation, Digital Transformation, Cybersecurity, and Administrative Reform

On June 5, 2026, in Hanoi, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology organized a meeting of the Steering Committee on Science, Technology, Innovation, Digital Transformation, Cybersecurity, and Administrative Reform, under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai, President of VAST – Head of the Steering Committee. This is an important meeting to comprehensively evaluate recent operations, and to continue institutionalizing and implementing the key tasks of VAST in the new period immediately after the consolidation of the Steering Committee; serving the advisory work and implementation of tasks for the Central Steering Committee on Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Transformation.

Overview of the meeting

Recently, VAST has made great efforts to implement tasks and solutions in accordance with VAST's implementation plan (issued under Decision 116/QD-VHL dated January 24, 2025) to effectively realize the Government's Action Program for the implementation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Political Bureau on breakthroughs in national science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation development, achieving encouraging initial results.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Tien Dung – Director of the Department of Science and Technology Development, Deputy Head of the Subcommittee for Monitoring Science, Technology, and Innovation, presented a summary report on the operations of VAST's Steering Committee for Resolution 57 during the first five months of 2026, specifically: VAST has chaired and participated in the formulation of many important schemes and tasks as requested by the Political Bureau, the Secretariat, the Government, and the Prime Minister. In addition, VAST has signed and implemented cooperation programs with numerous provinces and cities, including Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Hanoi, and Hue, while expanding research linkages, technology transfer, and commercialization of research results with major corporations (Cisco, Hyosung, TTC AgriS, Vietnam National Chemical Group) regarding AI, cybersecurity, new materials, and firefighting robots; the Academy has also announced a Directory of 112 technologies ready for transfer to ministries, sectors, and local authorities.

During the working session, members of the Steering Committee and the two Subcommittees frankly exchanged and discussed: the Operational Regulations of the Steering Committee; functions, duties, responsibilities, and coordination mechanisms; assignment of monitoring, synthesizing, and reporting tasks on the System for tracking the implementation of resolutions, directives, and conclusions of the Central Committee; implementation of the 2026 Plan for Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Transformation Development; action plans of the Steering Committee and the two Subcommittees for the last six months of 2026 and orientations for the 2026–2030 period; action plans for Science, Technology, and Innovation for 2027; and orientations for key science and technology programs and tasks, strategic technology areas, core technologies, and major practical issues of the country in line with VAST's strengths.

Concluding the working session, Head of the Steering Committee Tran Hong Thai requested that when performing tasks, members of the Steering Committee must closely adhere to Resolution 57, take responsibility for the progress and quality of work, thereby contributing to improving advisory efficiency and successfully achieving VAST's science and technology goals in the next period.
