Meeting and Introduction of Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai – Standing Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

On the afternoon of September 10, 2025, in Hanoi, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) held a meeting to introduce Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai in his new position as Standing Vice President.

Attending the event, on behalf of VAST, were Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, and President of VAST, together with Vice Presidents, members of the Party Standing Committee, the Executive Committee of the Party Committee, and leaders of VAST’s affiliated units.

From Lam Dong Province, Mr. Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Head of the Lam Dong National Assembly Delegation, attended together with Deputy Secretaries, members of the Standing Committee, and leaders of provincial departments and agencies.

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, President of VAST, congratulated Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai on his appointment as Standing Vice President. He emphasized that Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai is both a scientist and administrator with rigorous training, having studied in Russia and Germany, and was conferred the academic title of Professor in Earth Sciences and the interdisciplinary field of Earth – Mining Sciences. Throughout his career, he has held multiple positions, including research institute director, General Director, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, as well as Chairman of the People’s Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Lam Dong Province.

President Chau Van Minh expressed confidence that, with his solid scientific background and extensive management experience, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai will quickly integrate and make positive contributions to the research environment at VAST. He further noted that in the context of the recent Resolution e57 of the Politburo on the development of science and technology, VAST has been assigned many core tasks, requiring effort and close coordination across the system. He called on the leadership team and affiliated units to maintain unity, accompany, and create favorable conditions for Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai to maximize his capabilities, thereby contributing to the sustainable growth of VAST.

Concluding his speech, President Chau Van Minh extended warm congratulations on behalf of all VAST officials and staff, expressed his confidence in the new Standing Vice President, and presented a bouquet of fresh flowers to Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai.

Within the framework of the event, Mr. Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam, Secretary of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, highly appreciated and acknowledged the efforts and contributions of Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai to the province in recent years. On behalf of the provincial leadership, he congratulated VAST on welcoming a dedicated and experienced scientist to its leadership team and expressed confidence that Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai would continue to make worthy contributions in his new role.

Sharing at the event, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai expressed his deep emotion and gratitude for the trust and support of the Prime Minister, central leaders, as well as Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh - President of VAST - and the Academy’s leadership for facilitating his appointment. He also extended thanks to the people and leadership of Lam Dong Province for their trust, companionship, and attachment over the years, which he considered a valuable foundation for his continued dedication at VAST.

Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai emphasized that VAST has a proud tradition in scientific research, international cooperation, and technological development, built and advanced through generations of outstanding scientists such as Prof. Acad. Dang Vu Minh and Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh. In his new position, he pledged to work with VAST’s leadership and staff to further strengthen existing achievements while driving innovation for greater outcomes. He expressed his desire to bring VAST’s role closer to practical applications, contributing effectively to socio-economic development, including applying biotechnology in agriculture in Lam Dong and conducting research and production of pharmaceuticals from valuable flora and fauna.

Before concluding, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai affirmed that the spirit of solidarity and unity, as directed by President Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, would remain the foundation for VAST to overcome challenges and move toward sustainable development.
