Mastering the technology of producing Nano foliar fertilizers - REM

23/09/2024
In plant nutrition, macro, medium, trace and ultra-trace elements are needed. Since ancient times, people have known how to use fertilizers to increase soil nutrition and crop productivity. Adding nutrients through fertilization has promoted the growth and development of crops. The role of fertilizers is undeniable, but different types of fertilizers have different advantages and disadvantages. Specifically, if only organic fertilizers (fertilizers of natural origin such as manure, agricultural by-products) are used in agricultural cultivation, it will increase soil color, improve the microflora in the soil, but the yield of the plant will increase very little, the product will lack nutrients and can easily cause disease to the plant if not treated carefully because organic fertilizers contain many harmful microorganisms. If only inorganic fertilizers (fertilizers derived from chemicals) are used, crop yields can be increased, but there are many limitations because the acid radicals in inorganic fertilizers reduce soil pH, causing soil erosion, reducing microbial diversity in the soil, and the most important consequence is that, due to the large amount of inorganic fertilizers used in cultivation (~300 kg/ha), it causes resource loss.

If organic and inorganic fertilizers are combined, problems such as increasing crop yield, increasing soil color and microorganisms can be solved, but a lot of fertilizer is still needed. Therefore, nanotechnology has been applied to agriculture to solve the above problems, specifically nano fertilizers (fertilizers produced with nutrients in nano form) have been researched and applied to agricultural production.

Several studies have been conducted on the effects of nano fertilizers on plant growth and development. The effectiveness of adding micronutrients in the form of nanoparticles to fertilizers during the growing process is very high, such as increasing plant yield by 10-30%, resisting drought, increasing germination efficiency and improving the quality of agricultural products. Some nano materials also have the ability to resist fungi and plant diseases.

Rare earth organic fertilizers and nano fertilizers have been used and produced in many countries around the world. Vietnam is also importing these fertilizers. However, these products have low organic content and contain inorganic components. Organic fertilizer products are almost entirely imported, while domestic fertilizer companies mainly produce inorganic fertilizers. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a process for producing nano-organic micronutrient fertilizers to meet the needs of modern agriculture and reduce the amount of imported high-grade fertilizers.

Liquid organic foliar fertilizer Nano - REM combining rare earth organic complex with some trace elements in nano form has been successfully tested by scientists from the Institute of Materials Science - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (Academy). This new technology is an effective solution in modern organic farming, helping to increase productivity and nutrition in products, while increasing the diversity of microorganisms and especially reducing the amount of fertilizer, contributing to environmental protection. The new technology is the result of the project: "Research to perfect the technology and manufacture equipment to produce rare earth organic foliar fertilizer supplemented with nano trace elements" (code: UDSXTN.05/22-23) led by MSc. Nguyen Thi Ha Chi.

Within the framework of the research, scientists have completed the process of synthesizing rare earth organic foliar fertilizer supplemented with nano trace elements Cu, Ag, Zn, Ca, Mo, B, Si (Nano - REM) with a scale of 250 liters/batch and put into production 5,025 liters of Nano - REM foliar fertilizer (with a total metal content of ~ 120 g/liter, density d ~ 1.25 kg/liter, total organic ~ 30% and pH ~ 5.5 - 5.7, nano trace elements with a size < 100nm). At the same time, the research team has successfully manufactured a fertilizer production device with a scale of 250 liters/batch. The device has a working volume of 280 liters, including 2 layers of 316 stainless steel shells, the outer layer has a diameter of 710, the inner layer has a diameter of 640; the middle layer is diesel oil for heating; 316 stainless steel stirring blade, automatic stirring speed and temperature controller.

“Nano - REM foliar fertilizer has been successfully produced on a fertilizer production system created by the research team with a process of synthesizing rare earth organic foliar fertilizer supplemented with nano trace elements and special organic acids (humic acid - waste products of agricultural production and processing). The trace elements used are all in nano form, helping to limit excess fertilizer by minimizing the amount of fertilizer while still ensuring good plant growth, increasing productivity and improving the soil environment. The product has been tested and proven to be effective in cultivation. The Nano - REM production process has been completed, has high stability, and is ready for industrial-scale production for product transfer and commercialization," said MSc. Nguyen Thi Ha Chi.
