Lockheed Martin Company delegation pays working visit to Institute of Space Technology

On October 30, 1977, a delegation from the Lockheed Martin Company led by Mr. Craig McGilvray, Asia Pacific Sales Director for Commercial Satellite, and Dave Jensen, Regional Director of Southeast Asia, paid a working visit to the Institute of Space Technology, with the purpose of introducing Lockheed Martin Global"s most advanced space technologies, and to discuss the prospects for cooperation in future space-related projects, such as the VNREDSat-2 project, in Vietnam. At the meeting were leaders of the Institute of Space Technology, Dr. TS. Bui Trong Tuyen, the Institute President; Dr. Pham Minh Tuan, the Institute Vice President; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Minh Chung, Chairman of the Scientific Council.

At the meeting, Craig McGilvray gave a brief introduction about the history and development of Lockheed Martin Company. Established since 1995, it has become a prestigious American manufacturer of aircraft, weapons, missiles, satellites, and advanced defence technology.


The two sides exchanged possibilities of space science and technology cooperation, including the technical and financial assistance related to the small VNREDSat-2 satellite.


Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Bui Trong Tuyen appreciated the technological achievements that Lockheed Martin has made in space technology, informing them of the financial support from France for the small VNREDSat-1 satellite project. He also expressed Vietnam’s hope for financial support for small VNREDSat-2 satellite under the form of preferential loans similar to ODA loans.


At the end of the meeting, Mr. Craig McGilvray expressed his thanks to the Space Technology Institute leaders for the warm welcome, adding that Lockheed Martin Company would consider the proposals made by Vietnam. He stressed that this face-to-face meeting will be the premise for future cooperation on space science and technology between the two sides.
