Laos Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh highly appreciated cooperation results with Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

Within the framework of a working visit to Laos, on July 27 in Vientiane, Laos Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh received a delegation of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology led by Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Chairman of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh reported to the Prime Minister of Laos on the results of the delegation's work with the Laos Ministry of Education and Sports and the Laos Ministry of Technology and Communication; sincerely thank the Laos Government for the support of science and technology cooperation activities between Lao ministries and research institutes and VAST; expressed his wish to continue receiving support from the two Governments in the coming time so that cooperation activities between the two sides can be highly effective, to bring more practical contributions to the development of science and technology of the two countries as well as contribute to strengthening the the friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh praised and highly appreciated the cooperation results between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports and the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications in recent years, which has been demonstrated through many cooperation projects between VAST and relevant ministries of Laos. According to Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh, science and technology play a very important role in the country's socio-economic development and the Lao government wants to learn and apply the science and technology model and apply it to daily life.

Earlier, on the afternoon of July 26, during a working session at the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phout Simmalavong highly appreciated the cooperation in education and training between Vietnam and Laos over the past time; They agreed that this is an important task, a strategic field of cooperation, a special expression of the long-standing friendship and close relationship between the two countries, agreed to jointly strengthen the training of human resources. resources in science and technology through two universities under Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and universities under the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports. Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Lao Ministry of Education and Sports review the results of the ODA project of the Vietnamese Government to Laos Government "Strengthening capacity for scientific research and technology deployment for Laos National Academy of Sciences" period 2016 – 2018; especially the activities of two key laboratories for Life Sciences and Earth Sciences under the National Academy of Sciences of Laos and 07 joint projects to support the laboratory in the field of biodiversity and development of collection of natural specimens of Laos, geological survey, assessment of medicinal potential of Lao flora, and production of microbial products.

Speaking to Prof. Acad. Boviengkham Vongdara, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh affirmed that many new scientific and technological issues related to the current 4.0 revolution such as artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing that the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications have mentioned in the recent talks between the leaders of the two sides are also the development concerns of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. As the leading scientific research and technology development agency in Vietnam, VAST has been assigned by the Government to perform many key related tasks and is ready to continue cooperation and sharing experiences with the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications as well as related agencies. Units under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology had a direct working session with a number of units under the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications, discussing and proposing specific cooperation directions towards conducting joint research, consult and coordinate in developing the Scheme and submitting to the Governments of the two countries to cooperate in establishing the National Center for Data Storage and Cloud Computing; Lao PDR's earthquake reporting and data center, as well as the National Training Center for Technology and Innovation, the Center for Technology Incubation and Innovation, or the Vietnam - Laos Technology Transfer Promotion Forum.

In addition to exchange and cooperation activities, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, President of VAST, awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to Mr. Chan Seng Phimmavong, Former Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Laos, and Mr. Phimpha Outthachack, Director of the Institute of Scientific Research, Education and Innovation, Lao Ministry of Education and Training, former Director of the Institute of Science and Technology Management, Ministry of Science and Technology of Laos for their active contributions in promoting cooperation between units of Laos with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; especially in the implementation of the Vietnamese Government's ODA project "Strengthening the capacity of scientific research and technology deployment for the National Academy of Sciences of Laos".

In the joyful atmosphere of the Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam friendship year 2022, the official visit to Laos by Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology was a great success, opening up many new contents and cooperation directions, promising new results and successes in the future.
