Lao Ministry of Science and Technology visits Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology
Prof. Chau Van Minh, member of the Vietnam Communist Party Central Committee, secretary of VAST Party Committee and VAST president; Prof. Duong Ngoc Hai, VAST vice president; and representatives from departments and units under VAST received the delegation.

The visit was made on the occasion of holding cultural exchanges to mark 35 years since the signing of the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between the two countries and the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties. This significant event marked an important landmark in promoting close cooperation in science and technology between Vietnam and Laos in general and between VAST and LNAS in particular.
During the reception, the two sides reviewed traditional friendship relations between the two parties, two states and peoples of the two countries over the past years, especially scientific cooperation between the two academies since the agreement on science and technology cooperation was signed; and discussed detailed cooperation related to disaster warning and prevention, research on building a Lao National Atlas map of natural resources, construction of natural museum for preservation, research and tourism, exchange of scientific publications, the application and transfer of science and technology products, and personnel training.
A cooperation agreement was signed between the two departments of organization and personnel of the two academies.
The two sides agreed to sign the minutes of the meeting between the two academies; a cooperation agreement between the two departments of organization and personnel of the two academies; cooperation agreement between the Institute of Geology under VAST and the Institute of Ecology and Biological Technology under the LNAS; and a cooperation agreement between the Publishing House for Science and Technology under VAST and the Office of the LNAS.

Prof. Dr. Boviengkham Vongdara, Minister of Science and Technology of Laos, said that the Party and the State as well as the LNAS appreciated cooperation relations with VAST, considering it an important cooperation. He hoped that the relations will develop rapid and solidly based on the traditional cooperation friendship between the two parties, two states and peoples of the two countries. He affirmed the strong determination for cooperation with VAST in the field of scientific research and human resource development. He also expressed his thanks to senior VAST leaders and staff who made positive and effective contributions to promoting cooperation between the two academies.
On behalf of the State and Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Minister Boviengkham Vongdara presented the second labour medal to VAST, the second ITSARA medal to Prof. Chau Van Minh, and labour medal to Assoc. Prof. Ha Duy Ngo, vice secretary of VAST Party Committee, for their great contribution to promoting science and technology cooperation between the two countries.

Prof. Chau Van Minh expressed his appreciation for sentiments by the state, people and Ministry of Science and Technology of Laos to VAST in general and the two individuals in particular. He said he was further determined to promote science and technology cooperation between the two sides, improving the science and technology position of the two countries in the region and in the world, and contributing to national socio-economic development.

On this occasion, VAST granted the title of honorary doctor to Prof. Dr. Boviengkham Vongdara.
The delegation also visited the Institute of Information Technology, the Institute of Chemistry, the Institute of Physics, the Institute of Geology, the Institute of Biotechnology, the Institute of Geography, VAST Office, the Centre for Technology Development Assistance and Service, and the Institute of Energy Science.
