Lao Ministry of Science and Technology delegation pays working visit to VAST
During the meeting, the two sides discussed and evaluated the achievements, and especially the contributions of the Vietnamese and Lao scientists, in the ODA-funded project: “Increasing ability of scientific research and technological application for the National Academy of Science of Laos”. The two sides also agreed to propose to the Governments of Vietnam and Laos to continue supporting the second phase of the project; continue to closely cooperate in training high-level scientific cadres; and promote and efficiently exploit laboratories which have been supported by ODA funding from the Government of Vietnam. In addition, VAST leaders and NASL leaders called on scientists to further strengthen research and training cooperation to actively contribute to the cooperation between the two academies in particular and the two countries in general.
Speaking at the meeting, Professor and Academic Chau Van Minh and Professor and Academic Boviengkham Vongdara expressed their pleasure with the results of the cooperation that the two sides had made over the past few years, and said they hoped that the good relationship between the two sides would be maintained and further developed, contributing to the friendship between Laos and Vietnam.
Under the witness of delegates, Professor and Academic Chau Van Minh, VAST President, and Professor and Academic Boviengkham, NASL President, signed a deal on a bilateral cooperation project between VAST and NASL. To build the Laos National Museum of Nature, the Vietnam Museum of Nature under VAST and the Department of Planning and Cooperation under the Lao Ministry of Science and Technology also signed a memorandum of cooperation on research and construction of the museum.

During the meeting, Professor and Academic Boviengkham Vongdara, Lao Minister of Science and Technology presented the Lao Friendship Medal to Dr. Nguyen Van Thao, General Director of the Center for High Technology Development under VAST, for contributing to the promotion of science and technology cooperation, helping develop the traditional friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

The delegation of the Lao Ministry of Science and Technology visited the Institute of Applied Physics and Scientific Equipment, Center for High Technology Development, continued to work with the VAST research units in Ho Chi Minh City from May 15-18, 2018, ended the good working trip with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and opened the potential cooperation in the coming time.

On the same day, Prof. Boviengkham Vongdara, Lao Minister of Science and Technology, NASL President, had a meeting with Vietnam’s Prime Minister to inform him of the results his delegation’s working visit to VAST. At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc appreciated the cooperation activities that the two academics achieved, stressing that Vietnam would continue to help the Lao People"s Democratic Republic develop science and technology, and support and create favourable conditions for NASL and VAST to promote cooperation. The Government of Vietnam continues to support the next phase of the project “Increasing ability of scientific research and technological application for the National Academy of Science of Laos”.
