Joint survey trip between Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Russian Academy of Sciences by ship "Academician Oparin" in sea of Vietnam

Continuing to implement the "Road of cooperation in marine research for the period 2018-2025" between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), on 10/5/2021, VAST held a ceremony to welcome the scientific research ship "Academician Oparin", kicking off the third joint survey in the Roadmap and the 7th survey trip between the two sides in the waters of Vietnam.

The ceremony was held at Chua Ve Port, Hai Phong City. Attending the ceremony were Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, President of VAST; Leader of the Institute of Marine Environment and Resources, VAST - the unit presiding over the survey trip to Vietnam; Leader of the International Cooperation Department; Leader of research units participated in the survey. Also, there were Mr. Le Khac Nam, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee; Leaders of related departments and agencies; Mr. Alexander Maslov, First Secretary representing the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof.Acad. Chau Van Minh and Prof.Acad. Valentin Sergienko emphasized the role of marine survey cooperation in promoting scientific research and training of the two Academies; at the same time, they assessed the efforts and determination of the scientists of the two sides, overcoming many difficulties and obstacles in the past year in order to be able to start the 7th joint survey trip by the ship "Academician Oparin". Last but not least, they wished the survey trip would be safe, meet advantages, and achieve meaningful scientific and practical results on marine biological resources of Vietnam.

On behalf of the leaders of Hai Phong City, where the ship "Academician Oparin" first docked at the port to start the marine survey trip, Mr. Le Khac Nam said that cooperation in marine research will create scientific foundations and contribute to promoting economic development in coastal and marine areas in Hai Phong, a dynamic seaport city with many breakthroughs in economic development in recent years.


After the ceremony ended, the ship "Academician Oparin" set sail with nearly 40 scientists from specialized research units of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Russian Academy of Sciences. The ship will operate for about a month in the East Sea of Vietnam, extending the very diverse and rich marine research cooperation activities between the two Academies.
