Japan’s Osaka University honours Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, VAST president, as collaborative professor
Osaka University, founded in 1931, is one of the six oldest universities in Japan. Prof. Yukiwa Hideki was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1949 for his prediction theory on Mezons. In 2018, Osaka University was ranked the second and the 34th in the top of 100 innovative universities in the world by Reuters. The Collaborative Professor of Osaka University is a noble title given to a foreign scientist to acknowledge contributions to Osaka University"s teaching and international training.

VAST and Osaka University have formally set up cooperation relations by signing the Memorandum of Understanding in 2012 and since then, have sent young scientists for research and training, as well as implemented the exchange of researchers between the two sides. Many collaborative projects have been highly valued by the international community, such as the Neutron Carbon Isotope Research Project between the Institute of Physics - VAST and the Osaka University"s Center for Nuclear Physics Research; and project on transistorized nano between the Institute of Materials Science – VAST and Osaka University’s Institute of Nano Scientific Research.
Osaka University helped Vietnam train dozens of doctors and masters, and received over 60 VAST management staff in the field of human resource management in science and technology through 2 training courses in 2012 and 2014.
To promote cooperation in the field of training through the exchange of students, lecturers and the establishment of joint laboratories between units under VAST and Osaka University. In 2017, VAST and Osaka University established a joint office. For nearly one year of operation, the joint office has successfully organized one international conference and supported dozens of online scientific discussions.
Prof. Chau Van Minh participated, directed and supported training and research activities between Osaka University and VAST. At the event, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh expressed his appreciation for leaders of Osaka University and hoped for cooperation on science and training young cadres, especially the joint development between the joint laboratories of VAST- Osaka University and other Japanese companies in Vietnam.
Prof. ShojiroNishio, president of Osaka University, expressed his pleasure and honour at Osaka University having another foreign Collaborative Professor. President ShojiroNishio believed that with a new position and special support of Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, cooperative activities on training high-level young scientists, as well as cooperation between Vietnamese and Japanese companies with VAST-Osaka University"s combined laboratory, will further develop in the future.
