International workshop “Applying remote sensing and technology for environment and natural resource monitoring”

24/05/2019
Together with the achievements in space research and the development of information technology, modern remote sensing technology has been formed and developed, bringing high efficiency for many socio-economic activities such as: basic surveys, exploitation and management of natural resources, environmental monitoring and protection, early detection and forecast of natural disasters for prevention and mitigation, territorial management, as well as applications in security and defense. Thus, remote sensing technology plays an important part in the sustainable development strategy of all countries.
Currently, with the development of information technology and remote sensing technology, GIS and global navigation satellite systems have opened new development potential of high technology. Remote sensing and GIS technologies are now developed on the infrastructure of information science, including geographic information systems (GIS), spatial decision support system (SDS), global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and remote sensing (RS). These technologies allow research and evaluation of natural objects as well as natural disasters in a quantitative and detailed manner. The use of geo-informatics technology - a new technology that supports managing, operating and connecting, sharing and updating data between managing agencies and users - will be very beneficial because all the actual variations can be quickly updated, and managers" calculations and forecasts will be shared promptly.

In order to improve efficiency in basic research and application of remote sensing technology, geo-information technology in monitoring natural resources and the environment, while enhancing academic exchange among experienced domestic and international scholars, on November 16, 2018, the Center for the Advancement of Remote Sensing Technology and Geographic Information System (under the Institute of Space Technology) organized the international workshop “Applying remote sensing and technology for environment and natural resource monitoring”. Attending the workshop were scientists from many domestic and foreign universities and research units such as the French National Center for Scientific Research, University of Littoral-Côte-d"Opale (UCLO) - France, University of Natural Sciences - Vietnam National University, Hanoi (HUS/VNU); the National Institute of Agricultural Planning and Projection (NIAPP/MARD), University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), Space Technology Institute(STI), Institute of Geography (IG), and Vietnam Space Center (VNSC).

The workshop listened to 9 scientific reports, discussed the latest research results, shared experiences in the application of remote sensing technologies and geo-informatics technologies in natural resource and environment monitoring.

Representative of the Center for the Advancement of Remote Sensing Technology and Geographic Information System (under the Institute of Space Technology), Mr. Pham Minh Tuan, said, with the role and operation of the center, the center needs to connect experienced scientists, and build relationships with prestigious research units and organizations. Therefore, organizing an annual international workshop is one of the ways to realize this strategy of the center’s leaders. This workshop is an effective channel for exchanging and connecting domestic scientific research and urgent issues with in-depth international research using modern approaches in the field of telecom technology and geo-informatics.
