International seminar in cooperation between Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology Information (VAST-KISTI)

During the working visit to Vietnam by the delegation from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), on the morning of September 20, 2017, the Department of Application and Development of Technology in collaboration with the Centre of Information - Documentation held a seminar on international cooperation between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) to exchange information and share experience.

Attending the seminar was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Tien Dung, Deputy Head of the Department of Application and Development of Technology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Quang, Director of Centre of Information - Documentation Center, and representatives of some related units.

At the seminar


At the seminar, Dr. Lim Dae-hyeon from KISTI’s Small and Medium Business Support Centre introduced KISTI experience in building information and service infrastructure and ecosystem for Korean medium and small businesses. Accordingly, the Small and Medium Business Support Centre has an office and 7 branches with 51 employees across the Republic of Korea. The main activities of the centre are included in 3 main groups:


- KISTI programs to support small and medium businesses.
- Analysing directions and ways of development for small and medium businesses.
- Support small and mid-size businesses by using KISTI"s supercomputing system.


At present, the centre has more than 8,000 customers that are small and medium businesses, including nearly 300 family companies operating in areas such as industry, schools, institutes and other community-based foundations.


After that, Dr. Koo Young-duk, Head of one of the branches of the KISTI’s Small and Medium Business Support Centre, introduced in detail the branch’s operational experience. Mr. Koo Young-duk said that providing information to small and medium enterprises was supported by KISTI in the way that when the companies meet problems, KISTI staff collects information before analysing and providing solutions to businesses. The Korean Government funds the collection of information and the provision of information and consultancy for businesses is free.


After the speaker"s presentation, delegates discussed and put forth questions for the speaker, focusing on how to implement this model of support in Vietnam, the advantages and disadvantages during the implementation in Vietnam, as well as its feasibility and effect.

On the same day, KISTI delegation worked with the Centre of Information – Documentation in which they continued to discuss the building of a plan on carry out the information analysis support software (COMPAS which was introduced at VAST in 2016). The Korean side announced the development of COMPAS software in the Republic of Korea, positive results after the development, including the contribution and cooperation with the Centre of Information and Documentation. Representatives of the Vietnam Students’ Association in the Republic of Korea also shared experience learning at the Republic of Korea, seeking scholarships at the Republic of Korea and notes to pay attention to in applying to study in the Republic of Korea, with the young staff of the Centre of Information and Documentation.
