Institute of Tropical Engineering cooperates in research and development (R&D) with Japanese partners
In 2008, Institute of Tropical Technology signed a cooperation agreement with Dai Nippon Toryo company in the evaluation of coating systems for anti-corrosion protection in marine atmospheric conditions in Vietnam. Within the framework of this cooperation, in addition to improving the ability to analyze and evaluate high-end coating systems in the world, the Institute's researchers are facilitated by Dai Nippon Toryo to participate in scientific forums. At the same time, Japanese experts come to the Institute to share valuable experiences in scientific conferences (typically the CPM and ASAM conference chains) held at Institute of Tropical Technology.

In 2017, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology signed a cooperation agreement with Osaka University to establish a "Joint Office of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology - Osaka University" to implement the projects. activities of the ASEAN Campus Center under Osaka University, in which the main contents are: establishing joint research groups, joint laboratories; and promoting cooperation with the Academy of Science and Technology and a number of VAST-affiliated institutes to train human resources in science and technology for Vietnam.
Institute of Tropical Technology has promoted and opened a new cooperation with Osaka University. The first milestone in this cooperation was the event that Osaka University invited researchers from the Institute of Tropical Technology to visit and work at the university in 2019. Here, the two sides introduced their main research directions and proposed common cooperation directions. Since then, some young researchers of the Institute have received scholarships to do internships at Osaka University.

Not stopping there, by 2021, Osaka University has helped the Institute of Tropical Technology connect with Koatsu Gas Kogyo Corporation, a large Japanese enterprise specializing in providing high-grade adhesives and coatings used in industry.During this time, the COVID-19 epidemic was breaking out strongly in Vietnam as well as in Japan, and exchange meetings between the parties were changed from face-to-face to online. Online meetings are scheduled on the third Wednesday of every month. On April 1, 2022, a memorandum of understanding between the three parties was signed online. This document marks the moment of cooperation in research, improvement and development of existing products of Institute of Tropical Technology and Koatsu Gas Kogyo Corporation, starting with solar heat-reflecting paints. The two sides will jointly share knowledge and experience to develop Vietnamese standards (TCVN), assessment methods and perfect products to suit tropical conditions in Vietnam.

It can be seen that, in addition to traditional international partners such as France, Belgium and Russia, the Institute of Tropical Technology is looking to Japan as a new potential partner. The tripartite cooperation between the Institute and Osaka University and Koatsu Gas Kogyo Corporation promises not only to improve the quality of human resources, especially young staff, but also to help the Institute have the opportunity to cooperate in application and development of commercial products of the Institute.
