Handing-over ceremony of laboratory of the project on strengthening capacity of scientific research and technological development to the Lao National Institute for Sciences
At the meeting, the two sides highly appreciated the achievements of the cooperation in recent years, especially the implementation of the project on strengthening capacity of scientific research and technological development to the Lao National Institute for Sciences. Under the project, Vietnam invested in Laos with 6 major equipment categories, 33 auxiliary equipment categories and 11 office equipment categories. The laboratory of earth science consists of 4 major analytical instruments, 24 auxiliary equipment categories and 14 office equipment categories. VAST has been training 5 masters and 10 doctors for the Lao People"s Democratic Republic; and completed short-term training for 10 staff members of the Lao National Institute of Sciences in 4 areas of ecology, biochemistry, geology and analytical experiment techniques, meeting the requirements in the operation and use of invested equipment.

The two sides also agreed to further strengthen cooperation in technological research and development, and the training of human resources for the Lao Ministry of Science and Technology in general and the Lao National Institute of Sciences in particular.
The VAST delegation paid a greeting to Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith. Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith thanked VAST for giving support and assistance to the Lao Ministry of Science and Technology and the Lao National Institute of Sciences, stressing that the development of the Lao National Institute of Sciences plays an important role in promoting the socio-economic development of the country. The Lao Prime Minister also urged VAST to increase experience sharing with the Lao National Institute of Sciences for wisely using the budget in realizing scientific and technological development research works, especially in applying and transferring research results into reality; and assisting training of high quality scientific and technological human resources.

During the working trip, Professor and Academic Chau Van Minh and the VAST delegation attended the ceremony to hand over the laboratory of life sciences and the laboratory of earth sciences; and presented certificates to 10 trainees from the Lao National Institute of Sciences for having completed a specialized training course on laboratory analysis techniques and use of the equipment in the two laboratories.

To recognise the contributions to the cause of science and development of the Lao People"s Democratic Republic, authorized by the Lao Prime Minister, Professor and Academic Boviengkham Vongdara, Lao Minister of Science and Technology, presented the Order of the Lao State to Professor and Academic Chau Van Minh and the Lao Government"s Friendship Medal to three VAST officials.

On December 7, 2017, the VAST delegation talked with the Governor of Xiengkhoang province about the prospect of cooperation between the VAST units with Xiengkhoang province, especially in breeding dairy cows and biotechnology in agriculture.
