Groundbreaking ceremony for satellite facility

On June 10th, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) held a groundbreaking ceremony for a satellite signal receiving and transmitting station, a section of Vietnam"s satellite control station. This is an important component in the VNREDSAT-1 small satellite project, designed to monitor disasters and environmental and natural resources, in coordination with Republic of France, approved by the Prime Minister according to the Document No 21/TTg-QHQT on January 6th 2009.


The event was attended by Prof. Chau Van Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, VAST President; Dr. Nguyen Van Lang, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, and Head of the Management Board of Hoa Lac High Technology; Nguyen Dinh Minh, Head of the Department of Communal Science and Education under the Office of Government; Ms. Marie-Cecile Tardieu-Smith, Economic Counsellor, Representative Chief of French Agencies in Hanoi; Mr. Jean – Michel Caldagues, Vice President, Representative Chief of EADS Group in Vienam; Mr. Daniel Galindo, Astrium Director,
representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Administration of Frequency, Tay Ho State Treasury, relevant departments and units under VAST, architecture and supervise agencies, contractors and project management board.



On behalf of VAST, Prof. Chau Van Minh expressed thanks for the cooperation and assistance from ministries in Vietnam as well as the support of agencies and organizations of the Republic of France during preparation for the project. He said the project would meet the demand for remote sensing satellite photos to cope with natural disasters and global climate changes and contribute to stabilizing and developing the socio-economy in Vietnam.



Dr. Nguyen Van Lang, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, head of the Management Board of the Hoa Lac High Technology Zone, said the project would be implemented according to the design during construction and pilot operation, to become the foundation for the construction of the VAST Space Centre.



Mr. Daniel Galindo, Astrium director, emphasized that this was a key project in the cooperative framework between France and Vietnam. He pledged his company would make all efforts to ensure technical quality and safety during construction. He believed the close cooperation between the two sides would bring success to the project and initiate cooperative relations between Astrium and VAST.



The Director of Bach Dang 5 company (contractor of the work) also pledged to monitor the project as it progressed to ensure technical quality and safety during construction.
