From idea to practice on research and application of biogas to generate electricity and produce bio-organic fertilizers to contribute to agricultural development in Central Highlands
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Van Manh was awarded the first award for Asian Innovation 2020 by the Hitachi Global Fund, and this event was honored by the Vietnam Science and Technology Journalists Club as one of the 10 outstanding technology events in 2020.
That achievement is from the idea, experimental results and publication on the topic "Research, development and application of advanced biogas to generate electricity and use anaerobic sludge after fermentation to produce organic fertilizers for clean agricultural development in Dak Lak" under the Central Highlands Program 2016-2020, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Van Manh is the leader.
The technology applied in the topic is the technology of anaerobic decomposition and recovery of biogas from the sludge generated from wastewater treatment and production activities. This technology has been of interest to developed countries in the world in order to create energy and valuable products from industrial wastewater production and treatment, such as power generation, organic fertilizers, at the same time contribute to environmental protection, significantly reducing the amount of generated sludge and treatment cost.
From the results of the topic, the research team of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Van Manh has successfully built 3 models treating sludge into organic fertilizers with a semi-industrial scale with a capacity of 80m3 / day, a power generation capacity of 20 kW, cultivation for 3-5 hectares of crops in Dak Lak, Central Highlands. The topic has been implemented at Saigon - Central Beer Joint Stock Company from 7/2018 up to now. The entire amount of waste sludge of about 15 tons per day is treated to generate electricity with a capacity of 20 kW, enough electricity to operate the system and use for some other purposes such as lighting. The amount of sludge after anaerobic fermentation will be utilized to produce bio-organic fertilizer.

Through the assessment of the functional authorities on organic fertilizers, the indicators have met and exceeded the prescribed standards, especially the testing models using fertilizers gave positive results, helping to increase soil porosity and moisture, improving fertility and improving efficiency in using organic fertilizers; suitable for growing safe vegetables and short-term industrial crops. The vegetable products in the model have good productivity and quality, reduced pests and diseases, reduced care requirements, and increased productivity and quality compared to conventional chemical fertilizers.
The topic was transferred to the receiving unit, and staff trained to operate the system and bring the model into full play in reality. The success of the topic is an important stepping stone for the research team to develop and apply organic sludge treatment technology on a semi-industrial scale.
