French Ambassador pays working visit to VAST

On October 12th, 2018, French Ambassador to Vietnam Bertrand Lortholary paid a working visit to the Academy of Science and Technology (VAST).

The delegation also included Etienne Rolland-Piegue, Counselor for Cultural and Cooperative Affairs of the French Embassy, and M. Eric Molay, Attaché of Science and University Cooperation of the French Embassy in Vietnam.

The delegation was received by Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, secretary of VAST Party Committee and VAST president; Assoc. Prof. Dr Ninh Khac Ban, head of the Department of International Cooperation; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Dinh Tri, head of the Department of Organization and Personnel; and Assoc. Prof, Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, acting rector of University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH).


Desiring to further strengthen and consolidate the cooperation between Vietnam and France in the field of higher education, research and innovation, at the meeting, the two sides discussed issues relating to the renewal of the draft Agreement of the Government Coalition on Development of USTH; and Nominations for the position of Principal of USTH.

At the meeting, Mr. Bertrand Lortholary, on behalf of the French Government, pledged to continue building and supporting the development of the USTH in the next five years with the Government of Vietnam; building the USTH into a world-class university; and enhancing research activities in the USTH. The Ambassador also affirmed that the VAST would soon send proposals for suitable candidates for the Principal of USTH. The ambassador expects all the preparations for the Renewal of the Government Coalition Agreement in the field of education, as well as the nomination of candidates for the Principal of the USTH, will be completed before the upcoming visit by the French Prime Minister to Vietnam.


VAST President, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh hoped that the two sides would soon complete the Draft Agreement on Government Alliance on the development of USTH, in order to bring it into the signing programme on the upcoming visit by French Prime Minister to Vietnam. He also will actively consider and select suitable candidates for the Principal of the USTH.
