Expanding training and research cooperation opportunities with Paris Cité University, France
Bilateral Talks
Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh highly appreciated the support activities of Paris Diderot University, one of the founding members of the Alliance of French Universities and Research Organizations for the Development of Vietnamese-French Universities (USTH Consortium) in nearly 15 years of USTH formation and development. Now, with the restructuring of Paris Diderot University and Paris Descartes University to form Paris Cité University, the VAST and UPC collaboration has the potential to grow stronger and deeper. With the number of students increasing by about 20% annually as well as the opening of many key majors today such as data science, information security and pharmacology, there is a close link in research and training practice with units under VAST as shared by the USTH Board of Directors at the discussion. VAST and UPC both realize that the potential for joint research and training is extremely great.

Sharing with the VAST delegation, Prof. Édouard Kaminski, Rector of UPC, emphasized that UPC is a French National University and although it is a newly established training institution, with the foundation from universities with strong foundations in the past, UPC is now the leading French university in the field of Public Health; ranked 4th in France in the field of Medicine and 24th in the world in the field of Mathematics; is the leading research and training center in the Francophone community. The expansion of cooperation, especially with Vietnam's leading science and technology partners such as VAST, is an opportunity and honor for UPC to grow even stronger. At UPC, research is organized in a system of large laboratories, most of which are in the form of mixed laboratories with French national research units such as CNRS, INSERM, Pasteur Institute. These are partners who are currently members of the USTH Consortium such as CNRS or partner with members of the USTH Consortium. Present at the meeting, Prof. Jean – Paul Deroin, President of USTH Consortium, sees this connection as a solid foundation, contributing to the realization of one of the two important goals of the USTH Consortium, which is to find and expand new members of the USTH Consortium, support the effective implementation of the development of Vietnamese-French universities in addition to continuing to promote connections between existing members of the USTH Consortium. The USTH Consortium strongly supports the cooperation between VAST and UPC as well as the need for a high-level agreement between the two sides as a basis for joint operations in the future.

With the participation of UPC members in the USTH Consortium as well as the fact that UPC has a lot of experience in cooperating with major international research institutes, especially through affiliated laboratories, VAST and UPC have discussed and agreed to further promote cooperation in areas that have been successfully implemented by the two sides in the past such as the faculty study materials and earth sciences, and continue to expand in biomedical sciences, public health and develop advanced technologies in the fields of medicine and pharmacy, materials and physical chemistry. Especially, training high-quality human resources through student and lecturer exchange programs; The dual degree training program is an important highlight that needs to be strongly implemented between the two units in the coming time. The discussion between VAST and UPC has been expressed through the Letter of Intent on the signing of a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as soon as possible. This will be the foundation for opening up strategic cooperation programs in the future, helping VAST in particular and Vietnam in general improve the quality of training and scientific research, and at the same time create conditions for Vietnamese scientists to access advanced technologies and leading academic environments in France; contributing to improving the role and position of Vietnamese science and education in the Francophone community.

Paris Cité University The University of Paris Cité (UPC) was established in 2019 on the basis of the merger of two major universities, the University of Paris Diderot (also known as the University of Paris VII – established in 1971) – strong in physical chemistry and the University of Paris-Descartes (also known as the University of Paris V – established in 1971) strong in medicine and pharmacy along with the Paris Institute of Geophysics (IPGP). The university stands out for its diverse fields of study, including health sciences, social sciences, humanities, natural sciences and engineering. With more than 60,000 students and around 3,000 researchers, UPC is an important center in the French higher education system and has a strong influence in the European region. Currently, UPC consists of three faculties: School of Health (medicine, pharmacy, dentistry); School of Social Sciences (Law, Social Sciences, Languages); School of Natural Sciences (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology). Studies are held in laboratories, most of which are mixed labs with CNRS, INSERM, Pasteur Institute. The University of Paris Cité is actively involved in European and international research projects, with many partners from international universities and research institutes. |
