Expanding Opportunities for Cooperation with Professor Konstantin Sergeevich Novoselov – Nobel Laureate in Physics 2010

12/11/2025
On the afternoon of October 25, 2025, Prof. Acad. Le Truong Giang, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), chaired a working session with Prof. Konstantin Sergeevich Novoselov, Nobel Laureate in Physics 2010, currently affiliated with the National University of Singapore (NUS). The two sides discussed directions for cooperation in the fields of new materials, nanotechnology, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in materials science.

At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Konstantin Sergeevich Novoselov expressed his appreciation to VAST for the warm reception and conveyed his desire to explore and expand research cooperation with VAST in fields that align with the Academy’s strengths. He noted that VAST brings together many talented scientists and students in the disciplines of materials science, physics, mathematics, and computer science. This provides a solid foundation for promoting interdisciplinary research, particularly in applying mathematics and artificial intelligence to the study of advanced materials. The Professor also expressed his willingness to participate in mentoring and training young Vietnamese scientists, contributing to the development of a high-quality scientific workforce in these areas.

On behalf of VAST, Prof. Acad. Le Truong Giang expressed his hope that Professor Konstantin Sergeevich Novoselov would accompany and support VAST in developing research in materials science, particularly in the fields of two-dimensional (2D) materials and new materials. VAST is in the process of building a team of young scientists specializing in materials science and nanotechnology, while also aiming to establish a community network connecting scientists and young students in materials science, physics, mathematics, and computer science. This initiative seeks to strengthen exchanges and cooperation and to overcome the fragmentation of research resources.

Professor Konstantin Sergeevich Novoselov, a Russian scientist, is one of the world’s leading experts in condensed matter physics, mesoscopic physics, and nanotechnology. He is renowned for his pioneering research on graphene and two-dimensional (2D) materials, a body of work that earned him the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics, shared with Russian-German scientist Professor Andrei Konstantinovich Geim.

He is currently the Director of the 2D Materials Centre at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a member of several prestigious academies of science. Professor Novoselov has authored more than 320 scientific publications, including dozens of papers published in top-tier journals such as Nature, Science, and Nature Physics. His works have been cited over 180,000 times, with an h-index above 110, placing him among the “World’s Most Highly Cited Researchers,” as recognized by Clarivate Analytics every year since 2014.

His research focuses on quantum phenomena in graphene, van der Waals heterostructures, multifunctional 2D materials, and their applications in biology, nanoelectronics, artificial intelligence, and green energy technologies. His contributions have shaped the foundation of modern materials science and opened up new directions for the future of high-tech industries.
