According to Prof. Dr. Trinh Van Tuyen, in the context of globalization and increasingly deep international integration, the science and technology sector needs to continue to make more efforts, not only in research but also in practical application of research results to bring the highest efficiency to society. In particular, on December 22, 2024, the Politburo issued Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation. Resolution 57-NQ/TW emphasizes the guiding viewpoint of science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation development as the top important breakthrough.

As one of the most dynamic economies in the region, Vietnam is facing opportunities and challenges in the field of science and technology to increase competitiveness and meet the needs of socio-economic development. Vietnam has affirmed its responsibility to the international community and is assessed by the United Nations as one of the leading countries in implementing the sustainable development goals.

The Environment and Energy research direction is one of the eight main research directions of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, gathering a team of scientists from many specialized institutes. Over the years, scientists have carried out many highly appreciated and effectively applied researches in practice, aiming to meet the development orientation of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology as well as the country's sustainable development goals. Many research topics and projects have been carried out related to the following fields: environmental quality monitoring and simulation, early warning and proposing pollution control solutions; developing biological products, pollution treatment materials, advanced wastewater treatment; researching and applying recycling technology, solid waste treatment towards a circular economy; and recently, solutions applying AI, big data, remote sensing technology and GIS in environmental monitoring and management.

The conference "Advanced scientific and technological solutions for energy and environment towards sustainable development goals" organized by the Council of Environment and Energy, focusing on key and contemporary topics, is a particularly meaningful event in the series of activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment and development of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

The summary collection of the Conference's reports includes 40 scientific articles, including seven articles with general research orientation, presented and discussed at the plenary session. In addition, there are 06 reports on the topic "Advanced methods and techniques in monitoring and treating environmental pollution" and six reports on the topic "Scientific and technological solutions for energy and environment to serve the development of a circular economy", focusing on new research results on energy and environmental science. The articles presented at the Conference focus on main topics such as: modern techniques in monitoring, observing and analyzing the environment; advanced technology, new materials and biological products in treating environmental and energy pollution; energy-saving solutions and equipment; scientific solutions and orientations for developing energy and environmental technology to serve a circular economy. Scientists have proposed new research directions with high applicability in the fields of environment and energy such as: building smart grid models, models for developing industrial clusters and craft villages in a sustainable direction, and greenhouse gas emission calculation tools applicable to industries.

The conference “Advanced scientific and technological solutions for energy and environment towards sustainable development goals” was a great success, and was considered a forum for leading scientists and experts in the field of energy and environment to exchange academic knowledge and propose new research directions, as well as advanced scientific and technological solutions applied in practice, contributing to the country's sustainable development goals.
