DNA Testing Center, Institute of Biotechnology works with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA)

On May 26, 2022, the Center for DNA Identification (CDI), Institute of Biotechnology, had a meeting with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) led by Mr. Matthew Bradon, Managing Director of DPAA's Indo-Pacific operations. Joining the working session were the Representative of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Vietnam; and Representative of Vietnam Agency for Searching for Missing Persons (VNOSMP).

The overview of the working session

At the meeting, the CDI representative briefly introduced the routine inspection and research activities at CDI, the achievements that CDI has made and the challenges that CDI is facing. The CDI representative also wished that DPAA could support CDI in improving the capacity to identify martyrs' remains.

On the side of DPAA, Mr. Bradon also introduced the activities and approaches of DPAA's mission, and DPAA laboratory testing procedures. He also shared that DPAA would support Vietnam in overcoming difficulties and strengthening its identification capacity.

The two sides discussed and jointly outlined a future cooperation plan between DPAA and VAST within the framework of the US cooperation project to support Vietnam to improve its capacity to identify remains from the war. This cooperation is expected to contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of activities in the project, towards the overall success of large-scale identification of remains in Vietnam.

Within the framework of the working session, DPAA also visited CDI's facilities and research equipment.
