Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Visits and Works with Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

Overview of the working session
At the working session, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education K.I. Mogilevsky offered congratulations to Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai on his appointment as President of VAST, as well as congratulations to VAST on the occasion of the major anniversaries of VAST and of Vietnam. On this occasion, Deputy Minister K.I. Mogilevsky also respectfully conveyed congratulations from First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Andrey Vladimirovich Yatskin; Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government Dmitry Nikolaevich Chernyshenko; Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Valery Nikolaevich Falkov; President of Russian Academy of Sciences Academician Gennady Krasnikov; and President of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” Academician Mikhail Kovalchuk, to Prof. Tran Hong Thai on the occasion of his recent appointment as President of VAST.

Deputy Minister K.I. Mogilevsky said that, by decision of the high-level leaders of the two countries, 2026 is the Year of Science and Education between Vietnam and the Russian Federation 2026, aimed at further promoting cooperation activities between the relevant organizations of the two countries. Deputy Minister K.I. Mogilevsky emphasized that during this visit, the Russian delegation includes more than 50 leading educational and scientific organizations of Russia, which are close partners with many Vietnamese research and training institutions. Participating in the 3rd Vietnam – Russia University Rectors' Conference, the Russian universities share the common desire of further deepening extensive research and training cooperation in the fields of: information technology, quantum, UAVs, materials, biology, and especially the application of nuclear energy in biomedicine, gene technology, etc.
Agreeing with Mr. Mogilevsky's assessment, His Excellency Gennady Bezdetko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Vietnam, highly appreciated the role of VAST in promoting scientific and educational cooperation between the two countries over the years. The Embassy of the Russian Federation has always supported and accompanied VAST in implementing this research and training cooperation.

President Tran Hong Thai expressed his emotion and sincere thanks for the kind sentiments of Mr. K.I. Mogilevsky, together with the high-level leaders and organizations of the Russian Federation, who sent their best congratulations to him personally upon taking on his new responsibilities, as well as the meaningful congratulations to VAST on the major anniversaries of the Academy and of the country.
President Tran Hong Thai emphasized that VAST has had a long-standing and effective cooperative relationship with Russian partners in the fields of science and technology. In particular, right from the beginning of 2026, VAST has proactively implemented many practical activities in response to the cross-year of science and education between the two countries, such as calling for and selecting joint projects within the framework of cooperation with the Russian Science Foundation (RSF); coordinating to organize a geological survey trip in Vietnam's sea areas with the “Academician Lavrentiev” vessel; as well as maintaining academic and scientific exchange delegations within the framework of joint projects, etc. VAST is committed to continuing to strongly implement and expand these cooperative activities in the coming time. To orient the next phase, President Tran Hong Thai presented key cooperation proposals, including quantum technology, artificial intelligence, UAVs, satellite and Earth observation technology, advanced materials, rare earths, biomedical technology, new energy, nuclear technology, and interdisciplinary fields with high application potential, etc.
