Delegation of the University of France – Senegal visited and worked with Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

October 19, 2023, Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), had a meeting with the delegation of University of Franco-Senegal (Campus Franco-sénégalais - CFS) led by Prof. Serigne Magueye GUEYE, MD; FWACS – Director General of CFS, Member of the Senegalese National Academy of Sciences and Technology (Senegal National Academy of Sciences). On VAST side, there was also Dr. Le Quynh Lien – Director of International Cooperation Department, Dr. Nguyen Trung Nam – Deputy Director of Institute of Biotechnology, and Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest – Rector of University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH).

This is the first visit and working of the CFS delegation with VAST. The purpose of this visit and working is to learn from the model of coordinating training and cooperation activities of USTH with research units under VAST as well as with French partners, thereby applying to CFS to implement coordination training, cooperate with research units of the Senegalese Academy of Science and Technology and French partners.

Prof. Serigne Magueye Gueye said that USTH and CFS have similar organizational models. However, CFS was only established at the end of 2020, so it is essential to learn from the experience of more established schools such as USTH. On that basis, develop a potential cooperation relationship between CFS and USTH under the support of the two Academies of the two countries.

At the meeting, Prof. Chu Hoang Ha shared about the process of formation and development of USTH under the management of VAST. In addition to building laboratories associated with research units under VAST and French research institutes and universities, USTH also builds research cooperation programs between parties to promote research and training directions.

Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest, Rector of USTH, said that in France, there are 4 schools promoted by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which are French and foreign affiliated schools, such as France – Senegal, USTH, France – Egypt and France – India, of which CFS and USTH are the two most interested schools. He expressed his desire to develop cooperation relationships between USTH and partners including CFS. The cooperation between USTH and CFS under the support of VAST and the Senegalese Academy of Science and Technology will contribute to promoting research and training in the field of science and technology of the two countries in the future.

Prof. Chu Hoang Ha affirmed that Vietnam and Senegal have quite similar levels of development. USTH and VAST are also willing to support development experience for CFS and the Senegal Academy of Science and Science. The professor expressed his hope that there will soon be a cooperation agreement between CFS and USTH, thereby strengthening training and research activities not only between units but also between the two countries.
