Delegation from the Kingdom of Belgium pays working visit to VAST

On 13 July 2011, a delegation from the Kingdom of Belgium led by Ambassador Hurbert Cooreman paid a working visit to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST). Professor Chau Van Minh, VAST President, Dr. Ninh Khac Ban, Head of the international cooperation board, and members from the management board of VNREDSat-1 space project received the delegation.


During the working meeting, Ambassador Hurbert Cooreman informed of preferential loans from the Belgian Government worth EUR 63 million to implement the project on Vietnam’s second small satellite for the observation of resources, the environment and natural disasters (VNREDSat-1B). Four years after the initial cooperation to build the project, VAST and Spacebel Company have basically achieved their set targets, and will now work together to build specific plans to complete the project. A representative from Spacebel Company, Mr. Thierry du Pré-Werson, thanked the Belgian Embassy and VAST for creating favourable conditions for the cooperation. He added that the company will exert their greatest effort to ensure the project’s success in order to serve the demand and interest of both Vietnamese and Belgian parties.

Speaking during the reception, Mr. Cooreman, expressed his happiness with the cooperation between VAST and Spacebel Company. He also said that he had concluded his working term in Vietnam and that his successor, who was expected to arrive on 29 July 2011, would continue to support the cooperation between the Kingdom of Belgium and VAST, including project VNREDSat-1B. He thanked VAST for the effective collaboration during his working term in Vietnam.

Concluding the working day, professor Chau Van Minh spoke of his appreciation for the working visit by the delegation, suggesting that the two sides continue to cooperate in the scientific and technological area. He wished Ambassador Hubert Cooreman good health and success in the future.
