Construction of University of Science and Technology of Hanoi starts

With the consent of the President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), on September 27, 2021, the project to build the University of Science and Technology Hanoi officially started construction at the Education and Training Zone, Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic conditions, the groundbreaking ceremony had a limited number of participants and strictly implemented disease prevention measures.

This is an important milestone marking the development process, orienting to build the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) under a new model, which focuses on science and technology teaching and researching meeting international standard technology in Vietnam. The event is the result of cooperation in training development support from the Government of the French Republic and funding from ADB. The project is one of the important tasks of VAST, which draws interest and support of the Vietnamese Government, the French Government and ADB.

Groundbreaking ceremony

At the beginning of the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy, Director of Project Management Unit for the University of Science and Technology Hanoi (PMU-USTH), made a brief presentation on the project implementation process. The project has a construction scale including modern and synchronous functional areas following the model of universities in France and Europe, and architectural design with Vietnamese and French cultural symbols. Once completed, USTH will become a good training environment, helping generations of Vietnamese youth to access the world's advanced higher education right in Vietnam, contributing to tertiary educational innovation for development and international integration.

On behalf of VAST, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha, Vice President of VAST, expressed his deep thanks to the Party, Government, French Embassy in Vietnam, ministries, agencies, ADB, Hanoi People's Committee, Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park Management Board, People's Committees of Thach That District, Tan Xa and Thach Hoa communes for attention and actively support for VAST to start the construction of this important project with the procedures reviewed, appraised and approved in accordance with regulations. The Vice President wishes to continue to receive the attention, help and creation of conditions in all aspects of the authorities during the construction period so that the Project can be completed on schedule, handed over and put into operation with high quality and efficiency, contributing to the development of USTH as a model of innovation in higher education in Vietnam, towards regional and world level, attracting a large number of professors, foreign lecturers in teaching and research, in order to train and provide high-quality human resources in the field of science and technology, contributing to the national socio-economic development.

The VAST leadership representative emphasized and noted that PMU-USTH, Consultants, Contractors and related parties, when implementing construction, need to focus on the best conditions on technical staff and skilled workers as well as equipment, machinery, supplies, materials, construction with the fastest progress and high quality, ensuring that the works put into use meet the aesthetic, architectural and utility requirements to be modern and sustainable. The work is expected to be completed in December 2022. During the construction process, it is necessary to comply with the design, fully ensure the regulations on safety, environmental sanitation, explosion prevention and control. In particular, the project is implemented in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic, so it is necessary to strictly implement COVID-19 prevention in the spirit of the directives and directions of the Government, the Prime Minister and the Hanoi City People's Committee, as well as ADB's recommendations and the Ministry of Health's COVID-19 prevention and control regulations.

Representative of 36-DAC Joint Venture Contractor and 36-VINACCO Joint Venture, Labor Hero, Colonel Nguyen Dang Giap, Chairman of the Board of Directors of 36 Corporation, reported on project implementation and commitments to strictly implement the terms of the construction contract signed between the parties, ensuring the quality and construction time.
