The seminar "Vietnam-Italy cooperation in synthetic aperture radar technology and application" is the second cooperation event between VNSC and Embassy of Italy after the success of the exhibition "Vietnam - Italy space technology and application. Looking Beyond" was held in December 2022. Opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, Director of VNSC shared: "The strategy for development and application of space science and technology to 2030 was approved by the Government of Vietnam in 2021, with the goal of using and applying space technology to management, monitoring and support for natural resources and environment to minimize damage caused by natural disasters. VNSC is implementing the Vietnam Space Center Project and plans to launch LOTUSat-1, Vietnam's first radar satellite in 2024, contributing to the implementation of the above strategy. Meanwhile, Italy is one of the countries with leading experts in the field of space technology. Therefore, cooperation with Italy, especially in the field of SAR, will be a great opportunity for us to promote the development of space applications and technologies in our country, as well as strengthen the existing strategic partnership between the two countries."

At the conference, local speakers shared about some current status of SAR research and application in Vietnam. The Italian side provided information on the capacity and experience of the companies on SAR projects as well as future plans. This conference is considered an opportunity for representatives of public, academic and private sector organizations of the two countries to meet and seek cooperation partners for topics and projects in the field of space technology and applications.
